38 gallon rear tank?

ok so i was just looking through my LMC catalog, and there is an option for a 38 gallon tank to replace the rear tank on our trucks. heres the kicker, they are listed as fitting a 80-84, 85-86 and 87-89. i have a 95 f150 with a 351, and it is a flareside. im just wondering what they changed that it wont fit 90-96 trucks? from a little bit of searching all i got is its something with the pump and/or the sending unit.

also ive read a little about using the 32 gallon tank off of a bronco, what is all involved in this swap?

the reason im asking is that my rear 18 gallon tank leaks but it works fine when i think it might work to just put a few gallons in for a couple extra miles, and if im going to replace it, id like more fuel storage if possible

thank you

john

The 38 gallon tank won't work in the 95 you have. The hole for the pump assembly is only 2 1/4" on the older trucks and the newer ones need holes that are 3 1/2 (both of these measurements are from memory and probably inaccurate but you get the picture.

Here is a thread about using the Bronco tank. I've done it myself and my write up is on page 3. Be aware that you will need to purchase a pump and sending unit assembly for that tank as the stock truck assembly is angled wrong and won't work.

FWIW I really like the extra capacity the bigger tanks affords me. When I'm on a trip with my fifth wheel, I get a combined nearly 1000kms out of the two tanks.

thank you for the link, the way it looks from the pictures, easiest route on this would be removing the bed, which i was planning on doing soon anyway
