285,295,315........M/T,AT, what to do?
 

OK here is the deal! I have been reading alot of threads on tires,sizes load ratings etc. and still unsure abour what to do. I have a 00 f350 4x that I drive only obout once or twice a week and use to tow my 28ft camper(8k pds). It has a leveling kit and currently 315/75/16 pro comp mts d load on factory wheels. Do I need a E load tire? I would like to stay away from m/ts if possible but go no smaller than a 295, afraid the smaller tires may look out of place unless someone has some pics to prove other wise. If I can safely run D load tires then I want have a problem finding those in the larger size, non m/t. Just for a little info I bought the truck about 3 months ago and these tire were already on there and I havent pulled with them yet but they are over half worn and loud!! Thanks for the input!

What do you want? Do you offroad or plan to? Are you just towing on the highway or trying to break trail on snow covered forest service roads that no one has used in a month? Do you drive through mud? Do you drive through snow? Do you camp on the dunes and need a lot of traction in the sand? Are you more concerned with looks, or really concerned about performance? Do you want a quiet tire, or a louder tire that performs? Do you tow your trailer twice a week, or drive the truck twice a week?

Drive the truck twice a week plus about 7 or 8 camping trips a year. Dont do any off roading but do camp at the beach and encounter some sandy sites.

Anybody else? Can I safely run D load tires or should I get the E. Any m/ts that arent as noisy as others or do I go with a smaller a/t?

Look at the weight rating for the tires. My old E range 265 series tires were around 3300 lbs, the new 305 series E range are 3500 lbs. The D rating could have adequate load handling for your needs. It's somewhat relative too, there is more to the load rating that the weight too, but you should be fine. No one has ever come up with a good answer to this question.

I have the new Goodyears 315/75/16, i would have went 295 because i have a trailer and they rub alittle bit if i go lock to lock.

I'm running the new Dunlop Rover Maxx Traction and will not run anything else if they wear even half way decent. Their dead quiet and perform better than the BF All Terrains or the Cooper Discoverer ST's they replaced!! Plus they're E load rated in the 315's that I'm running (not sure on the other sizes). With 5k miles on them so far I'm very pleased!!!

I have looked at those was wondering about the noise and how they ride but havent seen any reviews about them. How much did they set you back? I believe they were right much cheaper than most! Got any pics?

They were $186 a piece off of TireRack.com. I ordered them as a wheel/tire package. They ride really good and the road noise is almost silent, especilly for a tire of this type! I'll have to get a pic for you with them mounted on the wheels. The siping in the tread works really well in the rain as well as the snow/ice that we've had lately. I've not done any serious off roading but they've worked great in everything that I've had them in so far.

Hey Badass, tires look great on the truck, I just orderd the 295's in the DuraTrac. Hope they perform as well as everyone says.

Truth be told you can run a d rated tire and never notice a difference unless you are towing I have 285 bfg ats on mine and they are great and they are alos e rated. depends on what you use your truck for. I know a guy that 6 plys on his 3/4 ton but he never towed or loaded the bed for him it was all about looks!
