ZF 6 SPEED THROWOUT BEARING ISSUE?

hey guys my truck is in the shop as we speak for a annoying low level chirping that comes and goes from the area between the trans/engine, happens when i do not have the clutch pedle pushed in to shift, i was told from a trans re-builder friend that this can be a bad throwout bearing? how can it be bad already with only 6k on the truck to date is this a high fail item, bad design, or just a cheap part, is a upgrade available to keep it from not happening again? thanks for any replys.

I don't think it is a common problem, but a bearing is a bearing and they can fail any time. Plus, a throwout bearing is a low precision design to begin with. Combination radial and thrust. Any chance it might be the pilot bearing instead? Here's hoping they get it fixed the first time for ya.

not a common failure at all. Make a couple hundred thousand and one in there is probably gonna be bad.

The pivot ball needs greased or it will chirp without pressure. Best, CB

wait... you are shifting without the clutch and it makes a weird sound...
just take any wild guess on what that could be on a transmission designed to be shifted with a clutch

I don't think that's what he meant. Hmmm, no probably not.

One hint to a bad throwout bearing is to put your foot on the clutch with just enough pressure to slightly load the bearing, but not so much that you actually depress the clutch fingers, or side load the pilot bearing. If the sound changes with just that slight pressure, it probably is indeed the throwout.

Oh, and if you are one of those dunces that drives around with your foot resting on the clutch constantly, you are wearing the face of that throwout bearing prematurely.
