5.8 351w air intake.
Why does the 5.8 351 v8 have two tubes coming from the engine to air box? Can i conjoin them into one tube with one cone filter, or should i just add two air filters to each tube?http://i863.photobucket.com/albums/a...eralengine.jpg

You can certainly combine them into one tube. However, the oem system is acutally very efficient & capable of support well over 460 cid up to 400 hp- especially with a filter change.
If you do an online search for “air filter test” there is a lot of very good information. IMHO, the CAI units are NOT WORTH THE $$! Unless you are talking about a system that was specifically designed for a specific application there are very little hp/tq gains actually achieved in a street use vehicle and there are very few docs that these mfg’s can produce that actually show an increase in hp/tq in the power-band range of a relatively stock street vehicle. I would avoid oil impregnated filters. While they have their purpose in off-road applications, Ford/GM/Dodge all have “watch-out” bulletins where the oil has contaminated intake sensors. - they even have a training video for the tech's on this (flatratetech.com) . If you look at the flow data, WIX HP filters flow 98+% of K&N and have a much smoother flow post filter plus excellent filtering, for a fraction of the price! You can use a WIX OEM HP replacement filter in the OEM plastic manifold box or build an true air ram type intake into intake. |
ooo. lots of help, thanks. idk what ill end up doing yet.

i like the air horns(:

lol thanks, theyre loud and cool. a must have in ford trucks IMO

were did you put the air compressor?
|
compressor is under the windsheild washer fluid, theres a hole down there a good size to mount stuff, and the tank is mounted underneath next to the frame rail right around the transfer case. It makes it easy to tap into the air tank so i can fill up my tires and stuff with the air.

that would be good for air up tires after im done driving in the dunes. what kit did you use and were did you get it?

Beechkid, are the WIX HP filters you speak of a product like the fram airhog or just the standard WIX paper filter?

I may have to order up a standard wix filter and compare it to the Auto-Extra filter I'm using now.
