Anyone have a pic of where the fender meets the cab?
I am building a 1950 f1 and am trying to get the fenders fit to the cab. I cannot get them to fit without a gap.
Does anyone have some close up pictures of where the fender meets the cab. I would like to see the area on the top under the hood. Thanks! Dustin Winkle Boise, ID dustinwinkle@yahoo.com |
I don't have a detailed picture handy right now but there is a gap there per the design, do you have the rubber filler moulding piece that goes there?
I'm sure someone here can explain it better than me and or have some pictures that may help. good luck Josh edit, Ok maybe I do have some pictures :) this first one is a 52 but you can see the rubber (or whats left of it) http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...ary2009018.jpg and a 51 harder to see the gap but it's there. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...Jan2009007.jpg |

Hi Dustin and Welcome to FTE!
There is a thick (like at about 1/2 inch) soft rubber welting that goes in there as Josh mentioned. I have a full front tilt but still have the welt on the fenders. It's thick enough to fill that gap even on mine - and th efenders aren't even bolted on! Here's a couple of pictures: Attachment 21287 Attachment 21288 Attachment 21289 |
Here's a pic of mine, its not a very close up pic but if you look you can tell there is a gap between the fender and the cab.

One side of my truck is approx 7/16" and the other is maybe 3/8". As the others have mentioned there is a piece of welting that goes in there and fills the space. Bobby |
The gap is to allow the fenders and cab to move somewhat independently while the truck is being used.

Thanks for the replies!
I am getting the gap on the top of the fender between the cab and the fender. You can only see this area when the hood is open. The gap is about 2 inches. I am not sure if it is supposed to be this way, or if I am not putting it on correctly. |

If you have a two inch gap at the top your inner fender must be way off or bent out too far. The gap is adjustable at the top with the inner fender The bottom is also adjustable with the slotted holes in the running board brackets. This is the gap without the gasket in place. http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...i/100_0701.jpg

This is the only picture I have that shows a little of the fender under the hood. Maybe you can see what it looks like http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...i/100_0731.jpg.

Are you talking about the area where the fender/inner fender come together at the cab right below the hood hinge? There is quite a big gap there between the top of the fender and the cab, the inner fender curves outward where it meets the fender but 2" sounds a bit excessive. I found these pics, I can't say for sure but it looks like something in the area of an inch or so. I can measure when I get home this evening.

OK, I just got home from work and measure mine. From the top lip of the fender over towards the flange on the cab is approx 1/2 per side.
If you can post some pics of what you have maybe we can see where the problem is Bobby |
I'm embarrassed to post pics of my "gap" after seeing how nice some of your trucks are looking!

Here is a pic of the right and the left. I forgot to measure the gap while I was there. Looks more like about an inch.
Does the inner fender go on the inside or the outside of the cab flange? http://www.westcodc.com/1.jpg http://www.westcodc.com/2.jpg |
My inner fenders are on the outside of the cab flange. I'll try and remember to take my camera home and I'll take a few pics when I get home.
