Replaced the #2 cyclinder intake valve spring just to find out that I need a new valve on the new rebuild. Like the sign at the machine shop says " Even the manufacturer makes mistakes now and then."

Hope to tear it down in a week or so.

No pics today, too oilly. I was able to get a self tapping drain plug, one size larger from Napa. That did the trick, leak stopped. I did however make one heckuva mess. I use the gallon Rotella T jugs, and since I just changed the oil yesterday, I tried to save it. Did OK, just missed about half a quart that puddled on the floor. Dry sweep rocks! After that, I ran over to the way bay and Gunked it up and hosed down the engine. Ran outta quarters, so I'll need to do it again. But it did make it easy to track down the last little leak in the pan gasket. I tightened up the pan bolts a lit and that stopped that. I will need to replace it before too long, it's squeezing out and cracking. Also picked up new motor mounts, might throw those on in the morning if I feel industrious.

Also adjusted the hood, boy that was a whippin'. Looks a lot better now, still need to tweak the latch so it opens a little easier.

wow Shooter, sounds like FUN?
Ha ha. Hope everything works out for the best.

It surely will! Going to drive down to the Bricktown car show tomorrow with the kids, oil drips or not!!

It is fun! I wouldn't be doing it otherwise. I'm plotting on how to get a hold of Dent #4. I found out my Grandpa's 77 F150 ( looks just like mine, only 2WD and LWB) might be available. My uncle didn't renew tags or insurance, so I might be able to relieve their burden and get that old beat up truck out of their way!

Yay me!!! This pick up is the reason I bought mine when I found it, looks just like the one I learned to drive in, but with the stuff I want in a pick up - 4x4, lift, SWB. So to have two alike would be just alright!

I'm having the leaking woes as well.

Changed allot of the fluids today and found a crapload of leaks. Tranny output, transfer front output, oil drainplug...

It's a damn mess.

my 76 has so many leaks, i dont even bother to try and figure out where they are. i figure all the oil and grease on my frame is doin a perfectly good job of preventin rust. :-X22

Installed new (to me) dash panel I got at the junkyard today for $10 uncracked!

Shooter00 07-10-2010 06:31 PM

Got up this morning and cleaned it all up. Then we ran down to the Bricktown car show. Only about 130 cars and trucks, no other dents. I was able to drive around the perimeter of the show looking for a parking space and turned a lot of heads. Maybe this time next year I'l have all the body work and paint done and start entering...

these old dents look sharp, even when they are rough. :)

Been saving up for a new carb. Installed a new Holley 870 vacuum secondaries on my 79 F350. Runs sweet, I had a Holley 750 double pumper - horrible mileage - it's a 545 but I didn't build it for max hp, just some fun cruising & towering.
I was also having problems with it starting (MSD Ignition) turned out to be a bad magnetic pickup. Now I'm a happy camper.

I needed to take a break from working on my dent so I went to the salvage yard and picked up a smaller rear view mirror, the plastic gutter channel at the firewall, a factory blank-off plate for the holes on the core support, and a "Ranger" emblem for the glove box. Also found a pair of Bosch fog lights off of a BMW..a deal for $20.

Came home and fabbed up a battery hold-down bracket for the Dent. It's drilled, painted, and installed.
