Great Wheelin' / Trailin' / Muddin' places - Community
 

I figured we might be able to compile a list of places to go wheelin' and muddin' in Washington, I haven't seen any attempt at this yet, however I'd like to start it off with a legal one.

Exit 38 on I-90 goin' east just before the pass, Theres probably 10 miles-ish of trail, some extreme 4x4ing needed, I got stuck around 1.5 miles up with my 2wd ranger

I know a crapload more places but none of which are deemed 'legal' :( Anyone else have any ideas/locations?

You were stuck, 2wd up by the fire training school, interesting. Well, I can tell you about a trip Marty and I went on. Started out as a lets take the kids on a sledding trip. Yeah sure, I wound up in the ER with a stretched achellis. Ouch...

That is a good area to drive the longing roads. Near Bonny Lake is a very well known place called Evan's Creek. Lots of Jeep 4x4 trails up there. Won't get me going through there in my truck.

I haven't been up there in quite a few years - used to be a pretty good party spot. My son and I are fixing up a bronco for him when he turns 16 in April - have to go check it out. I doubt my "loggers limo" would make it vey far up there if there's any tight corners.

Haha If you take a left (facing easy presumably) instead of a right and follow the road, eventually it splits off into a dirt/gravel road, which then if you keep heading up the face of the mountain turns into quite the unforgivable mudslick :( I got stuck on something that you could say looked a little like this /\ , haha.

gallagher head lake near cle elum is a good spot to go wheeling to. you wont make it up there in a full sized truck (if your worried about scratches and such), but i made it up there in a stock tacoma and the bronco guys wouldnt have a problem :D

I both love and hate this quote. I don't like it because people don't know what a capable driver can do in a full sized truck, and I love the looks on their faces when they say "How the #$&%# did you get that up here?"

i hear what your saying. when we were headed up the ghalligar head lake we stopped at the ranger station. i had my 97 taco and my buddy was in his 05 dodge ram 1500 stock everything except he had 33" mud tires. the lady at the ranger station pointed at the toyota and said "that might make it" then she pointed at the ram and said "that wont". the toyota made it unharmed...the ram got a couple scratches and the rear bumper got mangled bottoming out on a rock.
on the way up there tho...we ran into some guys in a lifted bronco and a dirt bike....both kinda laughed

well you guys showed her! besides, getting somewhere that pretty warrants some battle scars, thats beautiful!

it was very beautiful up there. theres a primitive camp ground up there. couple benches, fire pit. the lake wasnt deep enough for the boat (at least in augest). we were planning on making a 3 day trip, spending an entire day up there, but decided to leave next day. we got no sleep that night, the wind was just houling though the trees, and the bugs were everywhere. it was worth it IMO...my gf will tell you something different:-X18

Haha, aint it the truth though. As far as wheelin' places, theres not really trails, but there's tons of old decommissioned logging roads around my house in Glenwood, WA, as well as many that lead right up to Mt. Adams. The state is starting to actually gate them off though, so who knows how long they'll be open.

Here's some pictures of the kind of slop thats back there though. This is my buddy KC's 1996 F350 with 6" of lift and 35" BFG MTs, and this is some of the mild stuff, it gets way worse

Thinking about heading out there tomorrow, haven't gotton off road much but not stupid enough to get myself in a stupid situation...I hope haha. Seems like there are plenty of logging roads to fill my mind and empty my gas tank. I do have 4X4 however and in low she pulls like a beast. :9

Rock Candy Mountain/Capitol Forest. My buddies and I go down there quite a bit since it's really close to Ft. Lewis. There are tons of trails for atv's/dirt bikes and lots of places to get your truck stuck also. The view from the top is pretty great as well.

Driving directions: Take I-5 south from Tacoma. In Olympia, take hiway 101 north about 5 miles. Then take hiway 8 west about 4 miles. Look for a left turn into Rock Candy Mountain parking lot.
