Brake drum question...
 

Ok...here we go again...I did look using the search engine here btw...got a lil bit of enlightenment..but not what I was after...

Doing front brakes, replacing both drums...66 F100 2WD both well outta tolerance as it turns out. One has been replaced as the drum came off the hub but the other side is original as its all one piece like original. Both hubs have same casting number prefix...C4 and so on...

I recall another member who went through heck finding drums that would fit properly as i believe there was problems with wheel fitting and having ample amount of wheel stud poking through. I also recall this same member posting the parts store part number and line its from and the store he got it at...

Recently replaced rears thru local Napa parts store, they list the front drums but according to their online catalog have to check with local Napa store. Suggest compare dimensions given under item description with yours, if a fit contact local store. As far as the rears are concerned, for an aftermarket replacement found the quality good and fit like a glove.

Yep that was my truck. The autozone part number was a perfect fit for my trucks brake drums. All is working great so far. I think page two of that thread I put the part number in for the brake drums.

Don, The originals do come apart at the hub and drum, i always thought they were one piece also, but they are not...there just rusted together i bet.

whats the part number...thats what I was after...I looked high and low and couldnt find it...also, what brand is/was it and what store did you find it at ???

I know ..ones been replaced as it just floats on the hub...the other is an OE one piece pup....

Here is the AUTOZONE part number # 8733 duralast brake drum.

Don! it was on page 2 of the link posted above! I am sure i am right.... the hub and drum are 2 pieces. not one as you describe.

About a year ago, this subject came up. As I recall, the front brake drums offered by some autoparts stores and listed in their computers were in-correct for 1963/67 F100's.

This drum was listed by autoparts stores as fitting 1948/67 F100's (11" x 2") but was actually: A8TZ1125A, which fits 1948 thru 1962 ONLY.

FTE member AirHarley, a NAPA partsman, found the correct drums listed in their paper parts catalogs.

Since he has an F100 of this vintage, he was able to verify the drum is correct.

1963 and later F100's: Ford did not sell the drum separate from the hub, so there is no Ford part number for the front drum only.

ALL front drums can be separated from the hub.

The correct way to do it is...have the lug studs pressed out by a machine shop, as pounding them out with a hammer...could damage the hub.

The studs have serrations on them. These serrations are what hold the drum to the hub. Studs are pressed into the hub first, then the drum is pressed onto the studs.

When replacing front drums, it is imperative to install new studs, because once the drum is separated from the hub, the serrations flatten out.

If the studs are not replaced, there is a very good chance...that sooner or later...usually sooner...the drum can actually "walk away" from the hub. Not pleasant!
