466 IH Swap

I was wondering, if you can swap in a 466E, into a 1995 F250? Mainly can I use the same transmission that is on my powerstroke? Cause I would like to do a project with a powerstroke, and I want to keep my 250 diesel, I also want to be diffrent, so thats why I am asking.

All and all I want this to be the answer to my problems. I do some 2WD sled pulling and there is only a few of us and I hate getting beat out by the Cummins guys. So thanks for your help much appreciated.

Try the engine swap section, prolly get better response.

Yes you can.

You can do anything.

There are videos of 250's with 466's in them on the net. Search "466 super duty"

Youre' stock tranny might not be a bright idea, the 466 can produce scary amounts of torque, and guys have gotten 2000+ HP out of them for pulling.

You could say a 466 to a cummins is a cummins to a GM 6.5 liter.

Be prepared to get creative though, engine barely fits in truck.

For a true competition against a Cummins B, and still easily fit in a pickup, use a DT360. THEN see who comes up ahead!

I've thought of this, but the 466 is just so much more popular.

I'm thinking years down the road when I blow pistons and scratch the cylinder liners, how easy and cheap 466dt replacement parts will be to find.

I think it was the mythbusters that say "Anything worth doing, is worth over doing".

I see well the 360DT is going to be looked into, cause I want to kill some cummins

Here's a DT360 with a few add on goodies. Just got it done a few weeks ago. There's a burnout video too.

Thanks for that!

Heres the thread that goes along with it:
DT-360 Conversion in progress - Powerstroke Nation

I might be slowly turning away from the 466, and towards the 360.....smaller, still tougher than hell, and looks to be easy to crank out huge power as well....and no lift req'd either...seems like a much easier swap....plus the 466 would be heavier, and harder on fuel....

The guy says in that thread he was seeing 15.9mpg's !!!!! Better MPG than the PSD that came out!!!

I would think you'd have to stomp on a 466 pretty hard to get it to fit in your truck. DT360s were used in alot of buses and can be found pretty reasonably. With an Allison Automatic trans. They have huge potential from what I've been told. As for what you have in your truck now, you might want to check with Hypermax out of Gilberts Il. He is doin ALOT with Powerstokes. Huge power and torque numbers. I heard Max has one in his Excusion that makes over 1200hp.

Not to throw a wrench in the works here, but what rules are you pullin under?

Pretty sure you'll be ineligible for everything but the top class (and possibly not even that) after you swap to a 360 or a 466.

99% of the rules I've ever read say the engine had to be factory installed in a 1 ton or smaller truck.

You can use 6.6's, or 7.3's, 6.0's, and 6.4's, or 6.7's and 5.9's. That's pretty much your options most places, unless you pull exibition only.

The 466 truck somebody linked pulled exibition only.

Where I pull the rules say engine and manufacturer have to be the same. Thats a stock rule. Altered stock allows Cummins in Fords because there are kits to make them fit.

There's a couple 466 pulling pickups. Both pull exhibition. This one has that beautifully lopey idle and crazy high timing:

Im actually in the process of dropping in a dt360 in my ole 94, the only problem is gonna be bellhousing/flywheel/clutch setup, ford trannys use a sae pattern, so gonna have to make adapter plate then figure out how to make clutch work..466 will fit but rad must to in bed, engine will barely fit in bay, 360 will fit without mech fan, must use elec...

any other ideas please post.

The guy I had a link to, in post #7, is gathering interest for a production run for an IH to a Ford trans. You could have a DT360 or 466 with a ZF6. Here it is again, doing a sled pull for fun. Holding 3800rpm for most of the track
