Pic of proper Jack Mounting on 92 F250 anyone?
 

I have been searching the net and can't seam to find the correct mounting for the jack on my 92 F250. My friend noticed the other day when we were replacing the headlights that the jack was loose and after playing with it for close to 30 minutes, I can't get it to mount in its cradle. There is half inch ridge running long the length of the jack that prevents it from mounting the way I think it should. You can almost get it in at a 45 degree angle, but only a couple of threads grab and the tire iron is loose. Plus, I think its hits the hood hinge because the hood it slightly raised on that side.I think the jack may be wrong altogether, but I don't know. I am going to start searching for a owners manual but in the meantime, I was wonder if anyone had a pic of their jack and jack properly mounted in the storage cradle.

i had the same problem with my 92 f150, i noticed it an after messing with it for about ten minutes i got it. idk if it would be the same but ill get a picture incase it helps

I would just throw it out and get a good 6 ton bottle jack to put in the truck behind the seat or in your toolbox. Those factory jacks are awful.

Otherwise, hopefully someone can help you with a picture or something, I can't because mine has never been used and it got lost.

You aren't kidding about these factory jacks. It wore me out the last time I had a flat. I couldn't get the truck high enough because the jack just stopped moving, and the flimsy rod just added to the problem. Got to find right size hydraulic bottle jack. Any suggestions on the best size?

i agree, im pretty much out of luck regardless cause i dont have a spare, but thats the first thing i thought when i saw the jack, looks like itd barely get a rim off the ground

Has anybody figured the factory jack storage out yet? I have tried numerous times on my F250 and have not got it yet. I looked at a F150, and the jack was smaller and fit in the holder, but I haven't had any luck with mine yet.

I have to say the factory jack has worked great for me. I know it's hard to get it moving and the rod is a pain, but at least in my case it worked perfectly every time. My brother also used it several times on his Cherokee and Hilux. I have to say it's a pretty stout unit for it's size... No pun intended...

I just went out and looked at mine--it's cold and I don't feel like messing with pics right now. Anyway, first, the lug wrench goes in with the socket end pointing straight up and the pry end pointing down and towards the back of the truck. Then the base of the jack goes toward the front of the truck. The ribs down the side of the jack are at an angle to the fender. The ribbed side with the crank is lower than the rib next to the fender. The top of the jack (pointed towards the back of the truck) is also pointed down slightly. You should end up with just one corner of the base of the jack tucked into the vertical slot in the fender.

Take the factory jack out once every year or so, spray it with wd-40, run it up and down and stow it back in............never fails, if you give it a very little attention once in a while.
Carrying a loose 6 ton jack is a pain, just another loose thing rattling around.

Click on the pic will give you a bigger picture. Note how the jack sits at an angle. BTW, the third pic is how my handle just kisses the hood hinge when you close the hood. I'm not sure where the skinny handle for the jack lives, though. If it wasn't for the flash on my Canon PowerShot SX20, I couldn't do these shots. It's darker than heck outside right now!

Why is the jack sitting at an angle? Mine doesn't.

Thanks for posting the pics ray. I thought i read somewhere that the F250 jack bigger than the f150 jack which if it is, might explain the mounting differences. I haven't messed with mine in a while but would like to get the jack out of the cab and back where it goes.

On the 86-91's the jack handle is the thing that's where the hood prop would be on a car. One end is attached close to the windshield washer tank. In any event, Ford factory jacks are crap. I've attempted to use mine several times, for both my truck and for friends' cars. For whatever reason, they never seem to lift as high as you would think they would. You can change good tires with them, but not flats. I keep a General Motors :eek: scissor jack with me, because unlike every other make it has a conveniently hinged, permanently attached handle, and has a range of about 8".
