YAW Rate Sensor...READ
 

Long story short...Wife was driving and felt the brakes grab while rounding a corner in a 25 mph neighborhood. The "slip" light came on and stayed on. I told her to run it straight down to Ford. She did and luckily for us the light stayed on long enough for the tech to take it for a spin. We had brought it in for this same problem twice before, but the light would always go out before we made it to the dealership. The basically said nothing's wrong, and sent us on our way.

They had it for a couple days and could not figure out what was wrong. Between calling Ford HQ and troubleshooting, 3 days later they found a dead cell in the battery (which wasn't directly related to the problem). They also found that the YAW Rate Sensor was malfunctioning. They replaced that as well. With that said, they still informed us that what they did is only what they found during troubleshooting. It was not a direct fix to the problem that we brought it in for. They don't know why that was happening, and if the light hadn't stayed on, they would have sent us on our way asap. Ford HQ could not tell them exactly what was wrong, just to try certain things to see what it "might" be.

If you're not familiar with e YAW rate sensor, basically it controls the vertical axis of the vehicle. If it malfunctions, it will send mixed signals to each wheel via ABS and have negative reactions within the ECU ultimately throwing a code. I'm sure you tech guys can elaborate more.

The dealer also told me that when a code is "going off" (lack of terminology) it is supposed to be saved within the computer's memory. They said that the code for the YAW rate sensor had not been tripped - there was no record of it in the computer, yet it was faulty.

I'm not trying to bash the dealer, but the tech told me himself that they didn't know what the problem was, even though that seemed to fix the problem for now.

ok, ok, my long story short is still long, but i'm leaving out a lot still. This is the jist of it.

If you've experienced this keep track of it

that sensor goes out alot and will cause that problem and alot more. the sensor will think it's stuck at an angleand then give you a false traction control, I'm surprised it took 3 days if they looked at the pid it should read zero but when they are messed up they always read .1 it's the first thing to look at and the ford hotline should have told them to look at the pid

The techs are not well versed in these systems and if it doesn't outright fail, they are stumped most of the time. Ford's electrical items glitch from time to time. Hopefully this is it for you.

What is PID ??

it's data that can be looked at in real timeit's an acronym that I can't think of right now, but you need a high end scan tool to see it

just looked it up Parameter Identifier. Identifies an address in the PCM memory which contains operating information.

Of all the traction control complaints where it comes on while not needed, I have never seen a code thrown or where any dealer could pull info to tell when/why it happened.

well all you have to do is look at the workshop manual and it will tell you that you need to look at the pids for the sensor cluster(The yaw rate sensor, roll rate sensor, lateral accelerometer and longitudinal accelerometer are integral to the sensor cluster) and from my personal experience when they are broke they usually read .1

PID = proportional, integral, derivative

I have a 2006 Ford Econoline Van E350. They told me the YAW Rate Sensor is out. The chime for it keeps going of and is quite annoying. My problem is that no one, not even the dealer can find a YAW Rate Sensor on the database. The mechanic says this is what it is because he get on the forums and the symptoms are exact. Some have asked if the part has a differnet name? Does anyone know the part number? Please help I need to buy this part. Thnaks in advnce

Does your van have stability control? It amazes me that he thinks it's the problem yet can't find a part number.

It's called a stability control sensor cluster, but you might want to take it to somebody else since they couldn't even tell you what it was but knew you needed it

What truly amazes me is that no one at any of the deaalerships knew what I was talking about. He actually does good work but I told him not to remove the part until I was able to purchase it. You see I use this van for a business and I need it running in my day to day. I will see if maybe the stability control sensor is a better option for the dealership. I swear they need to hire people with better experience at these places. Thanks everyone!:-wink

Can you tell me where this yaw rate sensor or the sensor-cluster can be located in a 2007 Expedition EL?

it's under the center console. after you replace it you need fords computer to initialize it
