Viper 5101 remote start install 2004 F250?

Hey guys. I got a Viper 5101 remote start for a gift and need some guidance on putting it in. I'm mechanically inclined and know a fair amount of electrical. The installation guide assumes you do this for a living and know the ins and outs of all the electrical systems in the truck. Does anyone know of a link or write-up on installing a Viper system in a F250 gas truck? Thanks, John

Your probably best letting a professional install it. You can screw an electrical system in a vehicle up pretty quick, not knowing what you are doing. I used to be a tech, and I won't take on installing one of them.

I had the bright idea of installing my own alarm and remote start system to save some cash so I bought a Viper SST system. I got it saw all the wires and that was about the end of that idea. I plan to keep my truck long term and don't want the liability of having all that crap tapped into my truck. Sold the system. The local shop quoted me almost $700 to install the system and for the system itslf, no thanks. The alarm cost me $200 so basically they are making $500 for the install.

Best bet is to get a professional to install it if you can find one willing to install it. Most shops want you to buy the system from them and then they install it and warrenty it.

Thanks for the feed back, but I think I'm going to give it a shot. Does anyone know where I would find an electrical diagram for the truck? It's a 2004 F250 crew cab. Thanks again

Go to the electronics board, stereos and stuff, they will give you the goods. Main thing to be careful of is when cutting, soldering, ect, test before you cut, you are using hte right wires, always disconnect the batteries when doing the work. Sorry, I dont have anything to help, mine was installed at Dealer as part of purchase, darn good thing, they burnt out two boxes, before I got a good one.

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a wordpad document with pics on installing the alarm on a SD. I saved the info to my computer but don't have the website in my favorites anymore.

Is the warranty void if don't have a professional installer?

On the Viper hardware they say the warrenty is valid when installed by a professional. I wasn't all that impressed with the quality of the Viper system. Cheesy asian components, just had a cheesy feel. You know the stuffs gotten dirt cheap and marked up to the hilt. I suspect thats how the majority of the systems are though.

If the alarm system fries something on the truck I'd think you'd have a hard time getting the truck fixed under warrenty, rightfully so.

My local Ford dealership does not even fully understand the wiring on these trucks and apparently do not have the ability to give you an electrical schematic diagram but can give you a useless diagram (really just a picture) of harness paths. I had to go and actually convince a diesel tech to show me the trailer brake controller factory connector location and he was just guessing, he was right but he was guessing. I am not touching the wiring on my truck and neither is anybody else if I can help it. Good Luck John3366:) Oh yeah my Haynes repair manual has some electrical diagrams in it.

Do any of you guys have this info anymore? We just picked up a Viper 5101 remote start system and are having a nightmare time trying to get it installed and working in a 2008 F250 diesel.... Not getting anything on the remote start or door locks to work...

I purchased my Viper remote start from a place in Middletown, DE called Audio Works (I think). The system I bought had a 2 way remote however I do not know which model I have. They charged me $299.99 for the system and installed it for free in just under 2 hours. I have a 2005 F-350.

If you have not figured it out yet or got it installed, here is a site for remote start vehicle wire diagrams. most remotes have the same wire features and colors so even though it is not viper it is basically what you will need....hope it helps if not to late http://www.bulldogsecurity.com/bdnew...ngdiagrams.asp
