12V Cummins in a 99+ Super Duty
2 Attachment(s)
Anyone here put a 12V in a 99 or newer SD? I just bought a 12V engine last week and having had over 20 of the 80-96 Ford trucks I kinda want to put it in a new super duty...I have the skills to do the swap being a dealer trained Cummins engine man and license truck mechanic but I'd like to see a conversion to see how well it all fits.....My daily driver is a 91 F250 4x4 with a 7.3 IDI, 435,000KM and it runs like a clock but I want more power and it's easy to make with a Cummins.:D

here you go...
this is out of a excursion but it will apply for a superduty, plus a 24v but some stuff should carry over. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...9-cummins.html |
Check out Fordcummins.com and Destroked.com

I've already been pricing stuff from both of those sites....I've seen the Excursion as well....Doesn't seem to be many 99+ with a 12v huh?

So yeah it isn't as common practice due to the work that has to been done i bet, i believe most people would just buy a diesel truck (whether dodge, ford, chevy) and save themselves the labor and time of pulling the motor and trans (then the wiring) just to install another motor. |
that is a factory installed engine on the F650/750 that has the same cab, so there should be no problems on the wiring side.

I have no useful information to post on this subject...but I would be like to learn and do one myself sometime in future....posting to subscribe.

I have no fear of doing the swap, I'm just surprised I can't find pic's online of the 12v in a newer super duty.....I converted my 91 F250 from 2wd to 4wd, auto to 5spd and it has a divorced NP205 t-case in a custom cradle....Wicked setup with a 2wd ZF trans.....It's easy and reliable HP with a Cummins - the same can't be said for a PSD....I had a 97 F450 PSD, it worked good but it had way too much electrical to go wrong....My Cummins is going to be totally old school right down to a pull type fuel shut off.....I just need to find a cheap truck with a blown engine or trans to get me started.

Anyone know if a 12v will fit in a 2000 ford F250 V10
|
I was always concerned about the inspection issue. I guess that depends on the state. Anyone know about NY?
|
It will fit, and from what i have heard its easier to swap over from gas to diesel, than from ford diesel to cummins. Its a cool swap. one I will consider when my truck gets tired...also 20+mpg on the highway would be great.

any updates
I'm putting a 12V in a 04 F350 Super Duty frame FX4, but i'm building it all to go under a 69 F350 Crew Cab. Just wanted to see if you have made any headway.

|
I am subscribing to this thread because i would like to learn about this for when my truck decides shes done running.

If you search the net, ebay and craiglist -they are flooded with RV and automotive projects that sell for 10 cents on invested dollar.
OP is qualified for the job and has the engine for free (?) so he is well above the average at start. Still lot of work of love to come. Good luck. BTW I love inline engines like the diesel above and as the one I have in my sedan. Just to access turbo on V8 7.3 took a day of work. |
