F350 Short Bed, Crew, Single RW or F450 Short Bed, Crew, Dually??

Hey everyone, newbie here and this forum is great. Question, I'm replacing my Excursion for my work truck and I'm trying to decide to go with a (F350, 6.5' bed, Crew, Single Rear Wheel 4x4) or a (F450, 6.5' bed, Crew, Dually 4x4).

I tow trailers for work and the extra towing capasity of the 450 would be nice but not necessary. I would like to tow a 5th wheel down the road but again, it's not necessary. I'm putting a cap on the truck so I would need to remove the cap for a 5th wheel anyway.

Is a 6.5' bed fine for pulling a 5th wheel or should I have a long bed? Is a dually a pain when it comes to parking lots, garages, narrow roads, etc? I already know I don't want the long wheel base with a dually because it's just too big. What are the pro's and con's of a dually?

If a dually is out of the picture, an F350 is my answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe they make a short bed F450. Short bed F350 duallys are very rare, but due exist. Dual wheels can be a problem with some drive thrus and some of the newer parking lots (where they put in small spaces to meet building code numbers).

The short bed will tow fifthwheels. Depending on the trailer, you may need a sliding hitch to prevent cab damage while making fairly tight turns.

Good luck

I have a short box. 350. while a long box is better all around in my opinion, the crew cab long box is just way to long. I pull a 38' 5er. Even though I have a sliding 5th wheel hitch, the trailer came too close to the cab while going in forward direction in tight turns. My solution was too install a 5th Airbourne Sidewinder on the 5er. and now it clears with no problems. And welcome to FTE.
