green coolant ?
I took my 6.0 truck into ford recently to have coolant flushed and filled , the next day I changed oil and noticed the coolant wasnt gold? well promtly I went back and asked why.The service guy said they added vc8 additive which is blue and turned coolant green ? my invoice says on the parts used (3)vc7b anti freeze ,(1)10068 gold cool, (2)vc8 additive. Any of you in the know, does this sound right? Maybe Im just being paranoid but second opinions are good.

Tell them to flush it and only use Motorcraft Premium Gold....not sure what the spec is at the moment, but it is an EL Extended Life coolant (100k miles) It shouldn't be green. There are a few guys that come to mind on here that will clarify this better. Mark, Jeff, etc...what say you guys?

Vc-8 should only be used to green antifreeze engines. 7.3 Its a cooling additive the 6.0l doesnt need to ONLY 50-50 gold and water never intermix coolant on a 6.0

VC-7B is the proper Motorcraft Premium Gold Coolant.
A flush and refill with fresh coolant does NOT require the addition of VC-8 additive. In fact, I have heard that it is not necessarily good to overdo the additives. Ford does recommend this additive for the 6.0L (Premium Gold coolant) IF your Nitrites are low. I do not know what "10068 gold cool" is. I would certainly get an explanation of what this is. At a minimum, I would get the shop to measure the NITRITES for you. At the most extreme, I would consider telling them to drain it and replace only w/ the Premium gold (or do it yourself since they will probably start arguing with you). They certainly did not use the TSB for the procedure. |
See, I knew Mark would be all over it...

Still interested in the "10068 gold cool". Can't find it on the web ......... http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant...rchproduct.asp |
Regarding VC-8 (note that Ford states 1. Use only as specified and 2. to be used in systems with DEPLETED additives i.e NITRITES):

Thanks for the input I will look in the tech pages for the tsb on 6.0 flush/fill . I dont want anything in the system that doesnt belong . I wonder if they pulled the block plugs to flush and repeat with water ?I just installed my coolant filter also after the flush.

Interesting post bismic thank you ,so looking again at my invoice they used vc7b and vc8 additive gold coolant, blue additive I wish they would have had the yellow, although according to the info sheet I wouldnt need vc8 with new coolant .Reps to ya for the quick research on my behalf

Update on the vc8 in my gold coolant ,I took truck back to ford and showed the literature on the vc8 bismic provided and the residue I noticed in my recovery bottle .To my satisfaction they will perform new flush ,and fill with gold coolant only. There were a few trucks in front of mine with gelled fuel ,it was 10 below here this morning.Thankfully I have been using schaeffers diesel treat and valv.5w-40 syn.oil, truck fired instantly this morning, being plugged in all night helps too Im sure. 8D

Been using a fuel additive for weeks here. On friday the HIGH is to be 15 deg with wind chill of maybe -20 BRRRR:-hair

When we started getting below 20* here I switched to the white bottle.
Gotta do that coolant flush soon..................... |
Coolant leak-Color?
Hi,
I am a newbe so bare with me. I noticed a little bit of coolant on the ground under my truck. It appeared to be coming from the big hose below the radiator (b/w oil pan & bottom of radiator). No big deal, the clamp that holds the hose on was loose, I tighten it up so hopefully we are good to go. However, I noticed the fluid was clear and it looked like water (i assume the color would be yellow, hence prem gold). But when rubbing it between my fingers you could tell that its not just water but a little oily. I recently had the fluid flushed and changed by a ford diesel tech. I know he used the correct coolant (i hope). What color should this fluid be? I would assume the prem gold coolant is ''gold", after mixed with the distilled water will it be clear? Thanks 2005, 6.0, Powerstroke, 120k |
on the ground it will be clear unless theres a lot of it. its a very pail color
