transmisson slipping

Hey guy's I think my trany is slipping, I noticed the other day going up a little incline with only a little throttle it felt jerky. Is this an expencive problem? Will additives help?
Thanks

Probably cost a few bucks if the tranny is going. I assume Automatic?

When you say jerky do you mean it shifted up and down or it just bounced around in the same gear? If it's shifted up and down rapidly it may be an issue with a sensor. The computer on the truck looks at throttle position sensor, MAP sensor, Vehicle Speed Sensor and manual lever position sensor to determine shift points. Start by checking for any codes,
If its just slipping you can try and change fluid/filter but likely you will need a rebuild. These transmissions aren't cheap even a used one can go for $700 maybe more because your 4X4.

Post in the transmission section but let them know if your running an E4OD or an 4R70W (not sure what came in a '95) and you will get more insight.

Good luck,

Frank

Temporary "Fix"...

The tranny in my BII was leaking really bad when I first git it. I've put in about 3 bottles of Lucas Trans fix (plus more ATF) and it barely leaks at all now.
Maybe this will help the slipping a bit while you get the cash together for a proper repair?
AL.:-wink

trany slip

Thanks guy's
I added a can of STP miacle syrup and it actually works. I won't say that the problem is gone but it is much better and I have only put a couple of hundred kms on it.

When you say post it in the transmission section, where do I find it to post there? I have been on this forum for a while now but still don't know how to use it very well.
Thanks

Clutch,Transmission, Differential, Axle and Transfer Case - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

It's about half way down the list of forums under Misc.
Look for Clutches, Transmissions, axles or just click on the link above.
Do a search first on E4OD, it's a love it or hate it transmission, no shortage of opinions on FTE! :)

trany shudder

Thanks for the tip, I saved the trany fluid change article for future reference. Lots of stuff to look at in the mis. forum, I need to go back and look some more.
Thanks again

So Frank, are you going to put an E4OD into Big Green? :)

I'd prefer a ZF but I can't find one ...yet.
I have an I6/NP-435 drivetrain that will work for the F250. I will definitely miss the hiway performance of the 460 but not the gas mileage .I hope to tear into the I6 engine over the holidays and see what it looks like.

FTE is an amazing resource. Good entertainment to, you should check out the "dumbest thing I ever did in the garage" thread in the garage forum. You will definitely bust a gut laffing at some of the responses.
