Oil Change Bucket
What is everyone using to drain their oil into? I have a 01 F250 with the 7.3 auto. But it is a 2 WD so it sits lower to the ground. A regular 5 gallon plastic bucket will not fit under the oil pan. Trying to switch containers during the draining process makes a huge mess. Is there a special low sided container made that can hold up to 15 quarts of oil?

get a plastic tote with a lid! that way you can store the oil in a rack system or put it in the back of the truck and take it to the recycler!
|
or make an attachment for the shopvac and suck the oil out and then you know the rest!

Thanks for the ideas, but was hoping someone had manufactured a regular oil drain pan just in a larger size. I tried the cutting of an existing bucket but without the top ring in became pretty unstable. Sliding it out from under the truck was not pretty.

I drain my oil directly into my old waste oil and washer jugs. I just plug a short piece of hose on the drain spout of the Fomoto valve and fill one jug at a time, opening and closing the valve as needed. Absolutely no mess at all. |

How about not using a drain bucket at all. Have you heard of a Fomoto drain valve? I use one on my 6.0, but they also make them for the 7.3.

I bought one kind of like Redford showed, but it has an open top. It's yellow and it's really big, 20+ quart I think. I can drain the oil from my truck no problem and have room to spare. I think I got it at Wall-to-Wall Mart.....

Thats what i use. and i have never had an issue w all the oil not fitting. And when the filter drops out of your hands , you dont get a bath in waste oil
With the setup I have, having room for all the oil is though. It took 17 quarts to fill it up when I installed the extra systems. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...installed.html |
