I got my brake lights fixed
I had a problem of my brake lights staying on. I checked everything I could think of but no luck. So I took it to the mechanic, and he found several wires under the dash that had melted. He replaced the turn signal/wiper lever and replaced the burnt wires. Now the brake lights work properly and I now have my emergency flashers, which I didn't know they didn't work. It ended up costing me 256.00, not counting the brake light switch I replaced sometime ago, when I was told that might be the problem.
Anybody have any ideas, why the wires melted in the first place? Could it have been bad trailer wireing? I have a plug harness that plugs into the tail lite wireing at the connection, and I am prettty sure that the lights on my trailer are in good working order. I wasn't towing the trailer at the time the lights started staying on.

Previous owner trailer light wiring caused shorts to ground and blown fuses for brake lights. Couldn't shift out of park because of no brake lights. After rewiring the mess of wires; I have no problems. Under back of truck is a good place to investigate.

My truck never had a trailer hitch on it before i got it. I bought a trailer plug/harness, and intalled it myself. It one tht you unplug the tail lights at the connector plug and plug the harness in between the two connector ends, no splicing of any kind. And all my trailer lights work. The brake lights on the truck didn't go bad til a long time afterwords, and I hadn't towed the trailer in months, when it happened.
