fog lights not working

Truck is in signature. All of a sudden my oem fogs dont work.I took a volt meter to the connection where the bulb plugs in and no juice.Checked the fuse and its good.I get 12 volts or so at fuse for fogs..The foglight illuminator lights at the switch when I pull the switch. Is there a relay somewhere under the hood. All the relays in the fuse box checked out good and none of them in my truck guide were labeled for the fogs anyways.Im at wits end.Looked for 3 hours and cant find a thing. If all else fails how do I cut the wires at the fog lights and run wire to cab with toggle switch?I know I need a relay right?Im not familiar with hooking up relays...Any help would be appreciated...If I knew where the relay was I think I would find my problem...

I don't know whats going on, but the factory diagrams do not show your truck having foglamps. I looked through everything, and even looked up the headlight switch diagram. They show the foglamp part of the headlight switch, but say "no connection" for your truck. Now if I look up a 2000 f150, they have a whole separate section in the diagrams showing the foglamp circuits.

Possibly these foglamps were added and that's why you cannot find the relay and related components?

No these are oem , listed on sales sticker. They are are built into the headlight switch, you pull the headlight switch out and they go on...

I must be going crazy, I thought you had a 2000 f350. Anyway, they did have them in 2002.

The fuse is #43, 10 amp, in the underdash fuse box. The relay is located in the same fuse box under the dash.

I got the number 43, do you know which relay number? If not ill just switch each out. Funny though on my booklet not of the relays are labled for fogs

The links above are hopefully your fuse box. I keep looking and looking for the foglamp relay, and can't find it, and they do not list it as a replacement part. This means only one thing. They have built it into the fuse box, and it's not replaceable. We ran into this with the trailer tow running lights relay. Several people have had that go bad, and we found out the Ford engineers had a "better idea" and built it into the fuse box, and you have to replace the whole fuse box to fix it. Some people instead had added their own relay, bypassing the bad one in the fuse box.

A tan/orange wire leaves the fuse box to feed the foglamps.

If fog light is not working it is needed to be replaced...light is very essential for any vehicle so its better go to the dealor and ask him to replace the lights

Funny you say that. Thats what I was gonna do. Get some wire a relay and toggle. Atleast Ill be able to turn them on and off when I want to , not just eith headlights. Thanks for help. Ill try to rep ya

i have the same issue on my '04/ fuse 43 is good, the switch lights up, no voltage to the fogs.

did you ever find the cause?

rtazz17 05-02-2010 08:34 PM

Nope.... I rewired from fogs to a toggle switch on dash.. Better like that anyways. Now I can use them without the headlights on if I want.. I went nuts trying to find the reason why but ultimately gave up and did it this way. Good luck

good to know. i'll probably end up rewiring mine, but i will use the stock switch.. stealth.

Just dont forget to put in new relay...i wanted to use mine when headlights were off so I didnt use stock switch...

Just remember it may not pass inspection wired that way. In my state, if they follow the rules and check everything, they will fail it if the fogs come on at any time other than with the lowbeams.

Once you get them working, a little Ox Gard on the lamp terminals will help the connection last longer..
