66 F100 cruiseomatic transmission fluid

I'm about a qt.low on my transmission fluid. Is type F the right fluid to use? I was going change my transmission fluid myself', but I have never change transmission fluid on a automatic before, is it difficult or should I take it to a transmission shop? My truck has a 352 engine with a cruiseomatic.

Thanks

type F is correct . changing the fluid/filter is easy but messy always seems to miss the drain pan. you should remove the cover on the front of the bellhousing rotate the fly wheel and check for a drain plug on the converter get all the old fluid out not just the 4/5 qts. in the pan

they always seem to make a mess but it is an easy thing to do just have alot of kitty liter and rags

I remember doing this on my COM. The converter is easy to do and not a mess. The pan is another issue. Since I was replacing parts I removed my modulator valve and that proceeded to drain the body of the transmission. After that was done I only had what was left in the pan which made it easier to loosen the bolts enough to tip a corner down to drain the rest. If I had left the modulator valve in place the whole pan would have started to empty just as the pan bolts got loose from all around the perimeter. Now that is a mess when trying to catch it pouring out from 4 sides. This, unlike my cars, which have strong aluminum pans with cooling fins and a drain plug.
