Sudden temp spike!!!!help!!!

just recently the temp starts going up almost to red then comes back down to normal, i have an egr delete and just put in a new oil cooler about 2 months ago, this will happen while cruising down the highway at about 70 or 80 mph. could it be a clogged oil cooler again??? i dont think its the HGs because it will only happen like once every 2 weeks or so and sometimes i drive it like i stole it and it doesnt over heat or puke...help guys

Do you hear the fan kicking in as the temp is rising?

cartmanea 10-27-2009 07:20 PM

Could be a bad wire to temp sensor.

toolman05kr 10-27-2009 08:33 PM

sticking thermostat? fan wiring plug loose? Just my .2 cents

ford4x4956 10-27-2009 08:55 PM

yes the fan came on as the temp was rising and its not the temp gauge becuase it pukes with the temp rises that high

What EGR delete do you have?

flamebuster 10-27-2009 10:42 PM

Have you been running a screen in front of the radiator? You could have it plugged up with bugs after that much time. Those big radiators shouldn't get that hot especially if the fan is kicking in. I think it could be an air flow problem. But of course I am just guessing too.

homemade egr delete crack pipe mod...when i changed the oil cooler i had the radiator flushed and also put a new thermostat

flamebuster 10-28-2009 02:43 PM

Flushing the radiator cleans the inside of the radiator but does nothing for cleaning the bugs out of the fins, that the air flows thru, If you have ac, the condenser will be in front of the radiator and it has closer spaced fins and these catch the smallest of bugs, nats, mesquitos, flies, bees etc. When blowing out the radiator with compressed air I have seen them get trapped between the condenser and the radiator which still causes a over heating problem.
Where I live here in farm country we run screens in front of the condenser and still have to due a thorugh cleaning once a year.

temp spike again!!!!...was going to work driving at about 55mph them went up to red and immediately turned the truck off for about 5mins then turned it back on and the temp came back to norm. just drove home a little while ago with no problems, with a bad thermostat cause this?? is it a HG sysmptom?(hope not)

bismic 11-03-2009 06:14 PM

Bad ECT sensor. They are cheap.

ford4x4956 11-03-2009 09:10 PM

where is the ECT sensor and why would that make my truck overheat? and i dont get a trouble code is that normal???

ford4x4956 11-03-2009 09:13 PM

ECT (engine coolant temp)??? its not the temp sensor bcuz the truck does overheat bcuz when this happens it pukes

bismic 11-03-2009 09:15 PM

normal not to get a code

I bet you are not really overheating
