1996 F150 wheel bearing locknut socket?

I can't seem to find any info on this. Or at least the right info. I don't know what size socket I need to remove the wheel bearing locknut. I have seen in a couple of posts and in my Haynes that its supposed to be a 2 1/2 6pt. But thats to big. I'm thinking it might be 2 1/8". The truck is 4x4 with 3 screw auto locking hubs. It seems that the three screw hubs are not very popular because I can only find info on the 5 screw. Does anyone know what size locknut socket I should get. I tired both 2 1/2 and 2 3/8. Both are to big and my local parts store didn't have any other sizes to try and Advanced auto needed to know the size in metric.

its a special nut with slots in it. if im not mistaken you can rent/borrow the whole set from advance autoparts. they give your money back when you return it.

It is 2 1/4".

Thanks guys. I'm looking to buy one, but I will use Advanced tool lending if I need.

That should have read above 2 1/2" not 2 1/4".

Sorry for the miss typing.

I tried the 2 1/2 and it was to big. Didn't even fit into the hub. Neither did the 2 3/8. I was thinking it might be a 2 1/4 or 2 1/8, but everthing that I have read is saying it should be 2 1/2. But I think that is because ever post I have read refers to the 5 screw auto hub instead of the 3 screw which is the one thats on my truck.

You can look at this link but I do not see a one.
There is a 2 1/8" six point #7612 but it is for the 82-97 Toyota trucks.

make sure you are using the correct socket for this... a standard sizeed socket WILL NOT fit. this hub requires a special very thin walled socket to remove it. autozone and other parts stores will have the item. when i switched over to my manual locking hubs from the auto's i just used a long set of needle nose pliers. the nut isnt on there very tight(at least mine wasnt) which made it possible to get away with using pliers. i also had the 3 screw auto locking hubs(which werent broke.....yet!).

So it turns out that I did need the 2 1/2" The first two that I tried didn't fit into the hub because the socket wall was to thick. I finally tracked down one that was thin enough to fit into the hub. The first two I tried said they fit Ford light trucks. The one that finally fit specified for 1995-1996 F150 and Bronco II. Found it at AutoZone for $14.99
