Tonneau cover for 1965 f100 short bed?

Hi!

Can anyone recommend a decent Tonneau cover for my f100? It does not appear that there is a specific application for these. What are you all using? I want one that is easy to uncover the bed with and that looks decent.

THANKS!
Rob

I came up with this same issue, and I also own a 2007 F-150 SuperCrew with an Extang Full Tilt Cloth Tonneau. I measured the width, inside and outside of the tonneau, and the bed of my 07. The 07 inside bed is 62.5, and outside of top rail is 69 inches. The tonneau is 68 inches. I believe these are roughly the same as the 66. I emailed Extang since my 07 is a 5.5 ft bed, and therefore short for the last measurement. They answered telling me that the length of the Extang for a 6.5 for bed is 80 inches overall. I haven't gotten back down to my truck to double check the measurements, but I believe it will fit. The other nice thing about the Extang is it doesn't require any drilling. It all mounts with brackets, and is easy to remove if you need to . Hope this helps in the quest.

Got hit with a snow storm and my '66 is parked outside, so I am in a hold pattern. I will post when I get things done. I know the length is okay for the tonneau, and so now all I am waiting on is I am going to completely install my 2007 tonneau on my '66, and see that everything works right. (It will be short but the fit will tell the story.) I will post when I get that done, as soon as snow melts enough.

Failure on the 2007 Tonneau

Hey people,

I checked today, and the tonneau for the 2007 F-150 is not square. I should have known that because the ribs are marked front, center, and rear. I used to have a 1996 F-250, and I know the ribs were not marked. I have sent another email to Extang, and depending on the response I may take one for the team and order a tonneau for a 1996 F-250. I am more encouraged by this one also because it fits, 1973-1996 F-150, and 1997-1998 F-250/350 short boxes. That seems like a more likely fit.

I will keep you all posted.

Victory

Hello again people. I received an email from Extang yesterday, and found out that they actually make 3 models of Tonneau for 1966 F-100's. They make the BlackMax, the Revolution and Fulltilt.

The BlackMax is an all Black tracks and tonneau that will bolt right up to the bed, no drilling required. The feature or lack of feature on this one is that it bolts up and does not move. The only way you can use the bed is to unsnap and rollit up like a bed roll.

The Revolution is a truly flat tonneau that does not come upon the bedrails at all. It like the BlackMax rolls up like a bedroll to access the bed.

The Full Tilt is what I am ordering. It is a BlackMax with a second set of brackets that allow it to open like the hood, and it removes in seconds.

You can order any of them from AutoAnything.com. You have to ask them to special order them, but they cost the same as the same models for later trucks.

Thanks for the reserach on the different cover types; have recently purchase the Black Max for my 78 model; love the installation and overall performance of the cover.

Going to be interested in how things turn out since their web site (Autoanything) said there was nothing available for a 65 or 66 F-100. Didn't look further since I am only interested in those 2 years.

Guys bed covers are not exact fit anyways unless someone measures up and makes one for your truck. I measured at the top of the bed on my 86 parts truck are was amazed at how close the measurements were to my 66s.

Nobody checks to see if it is 1/4" over or under.

Jowilker, while I agree that tonneaus are not all the same I can tell you I had a Extang on my 1996 F250, and I have one on my 2007 F-150 They have a frame that holds them in shape and they fit pretty good. If Extang says they have one to fit a 1966 F100 I will try it and let you all know.

don't understand the issue here, I posted a link to a company that will build a cover to fit flush and is made to fit the specific dimensions you call in. I have run one for years on my 66 short and never had a problem with it.
