Just bought a 1962 F100!

This is my first post and first F100.

A 1962 F100, 292 V8 Three on the tree.

Nice interior, looks like original paint.

Only rust is down below tailights.

Lots of questions for you guys!

Welcome to the Old Fords Club. I don't know how much I can help, I am just getting into this myself, but there are a lot of really smart guys on here who know everything you need to know.

Welcome...post pics when you can.

Seems most people have the 65-66 twin I beam models

Is this because those years are highly sought after or are there just more of those to choose from?

ddavidv 10-18-2009 07:07 AM

They are a bit more desirable, though not by a huge margin. They ride better, disc brakes are a simple swap, the cabs are bigger, and they had a arguably more modern V8 option. Plenty of people with the earlier trucks though.

Add your location to your profile so we can get a sense of where you are from.

Can't create a signature till I post 25 times.

I'm in Rhode Island, The heart of the salt belt.

Bought it from the south.

It's raining here now, but i'll get some pics up soon.

Welcome to the family of Ford truck enthusiast, Welcome to FTE!! It's a keeper, like your truck, may I suggest that u focus on getting your treasure machanically sound, power trane and brake system; meantime, decide how much time and money u want to put into he/she. Rescued a 65 F100 that was one step removed from the bone yard and it's been my work horse and daily driver for the past 37 years. Don't hesitate asking questions, warehouse of helpful and knowledgeable members. Again welcome.:-wink

Wait till you folks see the interior!

And underneath! The guy said this thing has been in a garage the last 16 years. The chassis looks perfect!

Now, I'm confused on one thing, mine has a separation between the bed and the body. Were unibodys rare in 62 or were non- unis rare?

And my 3 on the tree got stuck on me. I had to reach down and move those two levers at the end of the column by hand to unstick it. What did I do wrong to get it stuck?

Welcome to the FTE and congrats on the 62.

Getting stuck between gears on a three on the tree is common. I am currently on my 2nd 3 on the tree, and it doesn't run yet, so I can't tell you about it. My previous one I had to push the gear shift up out of first into neutral, and then basically let go, and let it fall. Then push it up into 2nd. If you tried to force it I would jam it between gears every time. I have heard this is a symptom of the bushings being bad, but I don't really know. Hopefully some of the other guys can fill in any gaps or correct me if I am incorrect.

As for the Unibody's someone asked about Unibodies with wrap around windows and NumberDummy gave really good numbers on all of the trucks built from 61 to 64. Look for it.

I'll get a ton of pics tommorow.

Is there any area in particular you guys want pictures of? trouble areas? rust prone areas?

The one thing I can't help but mention is it definitely has that old car smell. It reminds me of riding in the back of my grandmothers old car as a kid. What in particular make that smell? is it the seat?
