1996 F150 iron plate on back of cab

I just bought a 1996 F150 RCLB 4x2 and there is a thick iron or steel plate bolted on the back of the cab between the bed what is it for ? maybe a resonance reducer its a stock ford part

Also its a reenforcement for just incase something hits the cab in that area. Seen a engine roll(inside the bed) in a fast stop and those beds just don't hold them back, but that little bracket did help in keeping the engine from going through the cab and hitting the seat. I wished I had a camera of that, intresting seeing how far inside the cab a 600Lbs+ engine/tranny goes in a "fast stop" when a truck hits another vehicle head on.

Your '91 probably has one. It is lower down on the back wall than on that illustration, behind the carpet. I have one on my '89 Lariat

I'm kinda stumped myself...I've known about these plates for a while, but I wonder if there was any rhyme or reason to a Ford engineer as to which trucks got the plate and which ones didn't.

Anyone???
