1996 F150 iron plate on back of cab
I just bought a 1996 F150 RCLB 4x2 and there is a thick iron or steel plate bolted on the back of the cab between the bed what is it for ? maybe a resonance reducer its a stock ford part :confused:

Yes that is what it is a Vibration Damper and yes it is stock.

Ahhh interesting i learned something new!!! Always wonder what that was for looking at fords musta been stock on 93+ cause my 86 & 91's dont have that....the 96 f-250 has one! thanks subford!

Also its a reenforcement for just incase something hits the cab in that area. Seen a engine roll(inside the bed) in a fast stop and those beds just don't hold them back, but that little bracket did help in keeping the engine from going through the cab and hitting the seat. I wished I had a camera of that, intresting seeing how far inside the cab a 600Lbs+ engine/tranny goes in a "fast stop" when a truck hits another vehicle head on.

I'm kinda stumped myself...I've known about these plates for a while, but I wonder if there was any rhyme or reason to a Ford engineer as to which trucks got the plate and which ones didn't.
