Hi and Welcome to FTE.
I know this is going to sound stupid and I don't mean to be derogitory to a newbie, but did you try and adjust the mechanical idle set screw? It holds the throttle plate open at the correct idle RPM. It will be under the carb linkage on the side and will usually be a slotted heavy screw with a spring on it. |
Did you check for a vacuum leak. A vacuum leak will not allow an engine to idle properly.

Take a spray bottle and put a little dawn or ivory liquid in it and spray around the base of the carb and on any vacuum connections, helps to find the leaks, Garry

everyone gave you great ideas so far, if none of those help check the timing and then the valve lash. give us more to work with. has the truck been sitting for years ? was it running well and driving before changing out the distributor parts ?

I want to thank everyone for all your ideas and your help. I will check all the things you have mentioned. At the moment we are suffering from a minor set back that is holding up the other issues. Right now the wiring is fried! Have to replace the wiring harness due to SMOKE bellowing from the dash! I'm sure some of you can relate to that. Thanks again. Gary and Paula Hunts55
