Airbag light / seatbelt sensor
 

Have a 2003 Explorer with 70K. The Airbag Light comes on and stays on. Last 2 times this happened Ford said it was the SeatBelt sensor. What would cause the sensor to go bad?

Most probably a bad connection. The wires are pretty easily tangled in a rear seat passengers feet if they stick them under the front seat.There's a sensor to tell if the seat belt is buckled but it won't affect the SRS. The wiring for the seat belt tensioner will set off the light. The AIR BAG light should blink a 2 digit code upon start-up. Count the blinks and post here.

start the truck and look at the light as mentioned. you will get a code like 3 - 3 for 33. It will repeat 3 times, then light stays on constantly. The code tells you if it is driver side, passenger side, under the seat or inside the dash.

My 02 F150 the airbag light blinks 4times then 6 times, does anyone know what this code means? Thanks for the help.

03 F150 SUPERCREW
 

I've got an 03 F150 SuperCrew that is giving me an airbag code 46. The truck was in an accident, both bags were blown. I've repaired the truck and replaced the bags and module (it was previously giving me a code 19 before I replaced the module).

I've had trucks that had pretensioners blown, but the supercrew doesn't seem to have pretensioners. Are they in the seatbelt on a supercrew instead of the buckle? If not, what else could be causing the code 46?

Haven't been in a Super Crew in a while. Are your seat belts/retractors integral to the seats or in the door posts? If your seat belt retracts into your seat then the pretensioner is in the buckle. If your seat belt retracts into the door post then the pretensioner is in the retractor, in the door post.

If you replaced the bags and not the pretensioners then that's your issue. If it blows the bags it blows the belts!

As part of the supplemental restraint system (SRS), the vehicle is equipped with one of two types of safety belt pretensioners. The pretensioners are activated by the restraints control module (RCM) when the module detects a crash event force exceeding a programmed limit.


Safety Belt Retractor Pretensioners

Vehicle not equipped with seat integrated restraints (SIR), the safety belt retractors are equipped with pretensioners. The belt retractor pretensioners rotate the safety belt retractors to remove excess slack from the safety belt webbing.


Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioners

Vehicle equipped with seat integrated restraints (SIR), the safety belt buckles are equipped with pretensioners. The safety belt buckle pretensioners remove excess slack from the safety belt webbing.


Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Switch

Just went out and checked, tensioners are definately in the retractors. Are the tensioners part of the seatbelt assembly or can I get them separately?

You'll have to buy the belt assemblies. Go back to where you bought the bags and see if they don't still have them.
