79 F250 Power Steering

Where in the world do I get a power steering supply hose for my truck? I've looked everywhere. Does anyone carry this part or do you have to get one made? The end that goes into the power steering pump is much larger than the ones that the part stores try to sell me. Any ideas? The truck is a 79 F-250 351M Camper special.

Maybe yours is not original equipment? I've always used the part store ones. Or maybe a Camper Special has a heavy duty one?

I assume you have the plastic power steering pump...make sure you aren't unscrewing the part that goes to the pump itself and just unscrewing the hose.

Is this the hose with the movable end on the pump?

schoolboyQB12 10-05-2009 07:12 AM

yes, it is leaking right there too; right where it swivels.

The first part Napa gave me for my '78 was the wrong one. Went back, the guy looked through a older parts book instead of the computer. Got the right one this time.

That larger "nut" on the pump that the hose screws into also screws off? I might have another leak if that's the case... :(

In that case, go to NAPA and find a guy who isn't a jackass.

You also may shop at rockauto.com, who is a FTE sponsor. There are still many hoses listed with the swivel base.

About two years ago, the hose was leaking on my old clunker. Brought the old part in at NAPA, and the guy got it right the first time around. I don't have the receipt or the box anymore. It was only about $15. I think Edelmann was the manufacturer.

The swivel hose comes with a gasket to prevent any leaks. It may be dried out or ripped.

Welcome to FTE

D8TZ3A719G .. P/S Pressure Hose / D8TZ3A719G replaced D8TZ3A719C / Obsolete

Fits ALL: 1978/79 F100/350 2WD ** I-6 & V8. 1977 and earlier is NOT the same!

Two different P/S Pumps: Ford changed the P/S pumps in 1978 on all the cars, trucks and Bronco's (but not Econolines).

The 1977 and earlier pumps have a steel reservoir and dipstick. The pump end of the P/S Pressure Hose is curved with a female fitting that secures the hose to the pump.

The 1978 and later P/S pump has a plastic reservoir and dipstick. The pump end of the P/S Pressure Hose has a straight steel tube with an O-ring on it.

This straight tube is pushed into the P/S pumps "quick disconnect" fitting, a female fitting on the hose secures it.

1978/79 F150/250 & 1979 F350 4WD P/S Pressure Hoses (there's more than one) have the same straight tube/O-ring, but...

These 4WD P/S Pressure Hoses are not the same as the 2WD hose.

I GOT IT!!! I guess I didn't realize that there was two pieces. The biggest frustration is that the guy at the parts store didn't realize that I had two parts lying there either. One was the bigger piece that screws into the ps pump and the other was the hose that I needed replaced. It turns out that when I got the two apart it was only a $.40 O Ring that was the problem. Wow, gotta love these old Fords. Thanks everyone for your help. :-X25
