Still runs bad-Help-P0275 code
OK, per my previous post, after losing the oil cooler, we replaced it along with head gaskets, ARP studs and a MBRP turbo back exhaust. EGR delete done several months ago. Truck was running great before oil cooler debacle. I purchased an Autoenginuity scanner with the enhanced Ford package and we have ran some scans. The only codes we get are EGR delete related and P0275. We have checked all connections, especially cylinder 5. All the injectors were reinstalled in the same cylinders as they came out of. The heads and cylinders looked perfect when we had it apart. Heads were decked before reinstalling. Any advice is appreciated. The tuner mentioned in my signature has not been installed yet.

Check the connector and the wiring to injector #5 .... or it could be a bad injector.

Mark,
Thanks for all the help you give on this site. I have checked the wire connections, cleaned the connectors and looked at the harness until my eyes hurt. What gets me is the truck ran perfect until the oil cooler went. Can you cause an injector issue by just taking it out and putting it back in? Is there a way to use the Autoenginuity to test the injector? Thanks |

Mark,
While disassembled, I looked very closely at all the visible mechanical issues. The #5 cylinder was actually near btdc exposing most of the cylinder wall. The crosshatching on the cylinder wall looked like new. The pistons looked good as well. Heads were inspected and decked at a very reputable shop. All of the rocker assemblies looked good. Hence my confusion Thanks |
Maybe some others can help you w/ the Autoenginuity. Otherwise, you might want to change that injector out and see.

Does it run like it has a bad injector? Is it missing and how long has it run since you reinstalled everything? It might take a day to get all the air worked out and the truck starts normally.

It runs but smokes dark grey and is way down on power. The AG scan keeps posting the P0275 code. Would air in that injector supply/delivery cause this? Turbo whistle seems lower but no other codes except missing egr system numbers. It has run maybe 20 minutes. I tried driving it around the block and it takes a while to get it moving good. Will I hurt it by taking it for a longer spin?
Thanks |

Thanks After you get it back together and it gets good and warmed up take it out and drive it decently hard. It's not like you are trying to rebreak in your motor or did a complete overhaul. Give it a couple of WOT runs from 0-70, take it back and clear the codes and try again. You'll know you got all the air out when it starts normally. |
Some literature I have states that if you have a SINGLE weak cylinder identified, then check the following:
1. wiring to injector (as already mentioned) 2. injector hold down bolt 3. injector copper gasket (is it present and in good shape) 4. faulty injector If you suspect a faulty injector, swap it with another one and see if the code follows it. Also, you can check for oil aeration.... 1. Run the engine at 3000 rpm for a minute 2. Remove the EOT sensor 3. Take a smple and check for bubbles It also states that you may have to operate the vehicle aggressively for 15-20 miles to remove excess air. |
Thanks, Mark. I will look at these things tomorrow
