1974 ford f-600
I recently purchased a 1974 ford f-600. I bought it for 600 bucks and I got a brand spankin new truck battery with it. The guy I bought it from told me that it came from Windsor airport, Ontario, Canada. I bought the truck with no ownership apparently it was bought by the airport and has never been registered before. The truck supposedly carried around a generator to heat up the airplane jet engines. Hence there are two 100 gal diesel tanks under the back deck that fueled the generator.The truck only has about 5700 miles on it. 1500 working hours. It has a ford 330 v8 under the hood. 2 barrel holly carb. running. The back is a custom flatdeck. Truck has an automatic transmission. The vin tag reads F6ODVU60760 158 M F600 4 8 G 66 16000 57 valve cover reads. d 4E63OM7 d-2-9 c r s-13 Frame looks mint my task right now is I want to restore the body and cab. perhaps rebuild the engine. I can turn that bitch into a 391 I think. I might later drop in a cummins. I dunno yet. I got the heavy truck parts cd comming. id like to know as much as i can about this truck. if some one can decifer the vin.

Thats a nice start for a rebuild , that truck looks to be in good condition for its age. The bed would be a good start for a flatbed or wrecker , posibly a welding rig. Kudos on the find let us know what happens next--- Pics are best.

Yes, you should be able to replace that 330HD (if it's really an HD) with a 391. Be careful with the exhaust manifolds, I'm not sure they are the same between the 330 and the 391.
Or, you could possibly put a regular FE in there, and get a lot more top-end breathing. What are you going to do with it? Haul heavy heavy loads? |
get the steps powder coated whatever color you paint it so you wont wear off the paint when stepping on them.

Before you do anything, you should secure proper title and registration. Certainly a pita, but you stand the chance of losing the whole truck if things are not as you were told. That would be the truck plus whatever else you do if you don't do the registration first.

I just bought a 1974 F-600 dump truck that used to belong to Pinal County Arizona. The truck odometer reads 53,000. The body is straight and solid, no rust.
Do you have a source for a service manual? I will need to repair the manual steering sector as it is very loose, repair third gear as it slips out, and do general maintenance. My goal is to have a functional dump truck that I can use around Cochise County Arizona for my own debris removal and landscaping. |

Do not believe the miles shown on the odometer. The odometers on trucks of this vintage read to 99,999.9 then return to ZERO. And, for years, crooked used/new cars dealers and private sellers engaged in the illegal practice of rolling back the miles. Is the speedometer head KPH (Canada) or MPH (USA)? As you can see, this truck was assembled in the US of A and ordered from Houston, Texas. So it was not in Canada when it was sold new. If it was ordered from Ford of Canada Limited, the DSO code would begin with the letter B / Could possibly be B8 = Ford of Canada LTD-Ford Great Lakes Sales Office. If it was assembled in Canada, the 5th digit of the VIN would be a C = Oakville, Ontario Canada Truck Assembly Plant. Compare the VIN on the Warranty Plate with the hidden frame VIN to see if they match / Should also compare it with the VIN on the registration, but you don't have it. Peeps replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they did not install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door. If the VIN's don't match, the left door was replaced, so all of the above decode info is wrong. C4TZ-9430-B .. Rams Horn Exhaust Manifold / Right/Left is the same / Applications: ALL 1964/78 FT engines. Post 7: As Ed said, get the registration squared away first, before you spend a single loonie on it. Without a title or registration, it might be a stolen vehicle. If so, you'll be arrested by the polizei, and...you'll have to prove in court that you didn't steal it. Not pleasant! |
