7.3 liter

Looking at another 250 diesel are all 7.3 liters power strokes this truck is a 1994.

1994 can be either a PSD or a Turbo IDI engine. They changed 1994 1/2.

The 8th digit in the VIN will tell.

vin F is the powerstroke
vin K is turbo IDI
vin M is non-turbo IDI

Its an m. Thanks but i want the stroke what do you think?

Cuda_jim 09-04-2009 06:35 PM

Welcome to FTE...forgot so say that

I wouldn't want another IDI...not even a turbo IDI
PSD or nutin ....but that's just me. The wallet always prevails :)

what do you think about the high mileage on the power strokes i see a lot with over 200k real nice trucks? i am looking at 2 now about 5k ea what do you think?

Cuda_jim 09-05-2009 07:31 AM

200K isn't a lot of miles for the engine. They can go well past 400K with proper maintenance.
It's all the other things that can nickel and dime you to death on the stuff you expect to find on a 15+ year old truck...Auto trannies are a weak link in an otherwise bullet proof drive line, even with proper maint.
If you have a choice get a stick shift.
5K seems like a fair price but I would crawl all over it before you decide. Here's a link to used truck buying guide one of our FTE brothers came up with, it's for a newer body style but most of it pertains to our trucks too.

ebbtide357 09-08-2009 02:59 PM

found a real clean 96 extended cab 4wd powerstroke but the milage is 244k said they took proper care of it what do you think?

Get pictures. How much are they asking? Is is close to you? If not perhaps another member can take a look at it for you. With proper maintanence it should be fine at 244K.
Somebody else is also looking at trucks. Try this link, it has a lot of good questions for the seller.
