Foggy headlights!
Hey guys,
My headlights are staring to get that foggy haze on the surface of the plastic lens. What do you guys use to clean them up? Thanks, Nick |

I know Meguiar's recently put out a headlight cleaning/restoring kit. I've not used it yet, but I'm a big Meguiar's fan and have been for 20 years.
I have also heard that you can use flouride toothpaste. Something about the flouride that cleans up the yellow/fog. If you are daring, you can use some REALLY fine grit sandpaper too (that's what the pros use). I don't know what to follow it up with to polish the lenses, though. |
I used a kit from Habor Freight a couple months ago, and it really brought the lens back to clear. I looked on their site, but couldn't find it. It was a 3 step kit with enough to do both head lights.

This stuff usually does pretty well for minor clouding...

I used the Meguiar's as well. Good stuff. I had one that just started to get a little yellowish tint to it on the top part of the lens and it took care of it nicely.

I wet sand with a high grit sand paper and use maquiars plast-x polish. Wet sand with 1000, 1500, 2000 grit sandpaper alternating directions (horizontal, vertical, horizontal as you step through the grits). Remember to keep things real wet. then polish with a plastics polish. Unless there is damage on the inside of the lens, your lens will look like new. I've done it to several vehicles recently. You basically have to get rid of the oxidized plastic. Plastic always yellow with time as it oxidizes. just a fact of life.
