My 85 F-350 RollBack DULLY unladen weight is 7,380. I have it registered at 17,000 gross weight (class 6).
Heaviest thing I've piggy backed was no more then 6,500.

7,380 + 6,500 = 13,880

Add full gas tanks, and people I've been over 14,000 a few times with no problems, that and the fact I can tow one on the towbar is why im registered at 17,000.

In my state atleast I can pick whatever gross weight class 10,000 13,500 or 17,000+ (as long as I dont get caught over the limit im ok)
As for what the truck can handle is another story.

Ford vin decoder says this about my truck

GVWR Class: Class H
GVWR Range: 9,001 - 10,000 Pounds

I honestly dont have a clue what the deal is.

Sorry, not much help here. My '81 book shows a max GVWR of 9100 for an F350. Here in California the vehicle title matches the GVWR in the doorsill. I think in other states you can title the GVWR a lot higher. You just pay higher registration fees.

FWIW, I would also be concerned about finding out the axle ratio.

A SRW GVW is 9100. A DRW is 10200. A cab-n-chassis is 11400

OK folks THANKS for all the input + help
