Need some Bronco II help! Was running rough, now not starting?

Hey guys. I just got my 84 B2 4x4 a few days ago. Background on it: It sat for about 2 or 3 years. It seems the longer it runs, the worse it runs. The plugs have been changed so far. I drove it last weekend for about 7 or 8 miles and everything was fine. Then it started cutting out. I couldnt get over 25mph. Then I turned into my driveway and it died. Now it wont start. It kicks over like it wants to start right up though. I smell gas like its flooded and saw a little gas under the car around where the carb is.

I started to take the carb off but didnt. There is a spring on the right side of the carb. With the motor off should the spring be compressed or stretched out? On the back of the carb there is a vaccum line that isnt attached. I assume its a vaccum line. Any idea on why it wont start or why it started cutting out? A guy took a look at it and confirmed that it drove worse the longer it ran. That was before I got it though. Thanks guys.
