[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-May-02 AT 05:30 PM (EST)]I have a 79 F-150 4x4 with a chrome bumper. It has some light suface rust. I was wondering if anyone knows of away to take the rust off with out hurting the chrome? Any suggestions? Thanks.

my 1979 F-100 had some of that, i bought a can of some stuff called like EagleOne or something, its a can of wadding with some kind of chemical that brightens/cleans silver, shrome, and that kind of thing, it got most of the rust off except for ther pitted stuff.

Im not exactly sure if this is what TrueBlue is talking about, but ive used it to get heavy oxidation off my old explorer, and it worked great. You have to really work at it, but in the end it was a great improvement. Hope this helps.

A buffing technique I use at work would do ok also. I use sandpaper very high grit 1200 is the bottom, up to 4000 grit. apply a light buffing fluid like a metal polish, or you can also use "never dull" also a polishing cream. This technique will shine almost any metal, aluminum(sp) shines very good. Chrome is kinda a paint so be carefull how much scrubbing and stuff you do.

Wenol is the stuff you find at all the shows, especially the shows for the older trucks that had lots of chrome. I bought a tube and swear by it.

:-X22 I have a copy of the Four Wheeler Magazine Feb. 2002 that states that Coca-Cola will take off the surface rust on chrome bumbers and wheels. Pour some on tin-foil and wipe on with a rag and the rust should come right off and the chrome look brand new. Just my input.

Ken actually beat me to it on the Wenol metal polish.

We got a tube at the last Daytona car show for use on our 1941. I used it this weekend to polish all the chrome on Steve's Kenworth and it took out all of the rust stains, bug stains and polished up the stainless mirrors real nice too. It's also real easy to work with. We don't have any pitted areas, so I can't tell you how it works on them.

BTW - Steve found the Wenol products at our local Congress Auto Parts store this weekend.
