how much paint?
does anyone know about how much paint it would take to do one coat on a 87-91 f250/350 ?
Are you doing any body work? Is it the same color as the original color? Are you doin the door jams and inside the bed? Reg cab, x cab , crew cab?
its a 1990 f350 reg cab srw. ill do inside the bed but not the door jams. and im thinking of changing from white to black. dont think it needs any body work.

You have no dents or rust!? I am envious. You will need to prime the truck before changing colors(at least gallon of prime) You are going to leave the door jams white on a black truck?:-X13 Have you ever owned a black vehicle( they suck) at least 1.5 gallom to do the outside of the truck and the inside of the bed. Are you going to clear coat?
yeah im going to clearcoat it. but theres no point clearcoating inside the bed (is there?)
i might make it forrest green or somthing too, idk yet. the door jams seem like they would be a pain to do, are they? im just trying to get a ballpark on supplies and pricing. and whats wrong with black? ive never had it, i just think shiny black looks awesome there isnt much dents or rust, no. nothing that would really be that big a deal to fix |
Black and almost every dark color shows EVERY imperfection(dirt(in the paint), rust, dents) and looks dirty 30 seconds after you just washed it. And YES. it would look like **** if the door jams were not none
If the paint is original and in good shape, there is no need for primer. Just scuff the surface and spray over it, the factory paint will act like a primer.
ive never painted a vehicle before, what would i have to do?
If you are going over the original white, remove all the trim, grill, lights, glass anything you can. You will need to wet sand w 400-600 grit paper. Then clean the clean the whole truck w a wax and grease remover. Tape off anything you dont want paint on, wipe off the truck again and start painting.
As for not clearcoating.... If you use a 2 stage paint, you hve to clearcoat otherwise it will come out like black primer and have no protection againgts the elements |

Some will argue that the only way to paint is to take the vehicle down to bare metal and go with base coat/clear coat. But I can't justify the $3-4K it would cost to pay a shop to do this. |
