Axle Gearing question

I didnt find it in any of the threads...

I have a C6 transmission.

I have a D44 and an 8.8 with 3.55 gears with 35" tires

I found this may be the problem to my fuel mileage problem.

I was told 3.73 or 4.11 will be a bit better. Will the 4.11 fit in the current axle housings? I just fixed suspension stuff and dont want to dump it now. Is it cheaper to get new gears or new axles? If I need new axles, can I get bolt on?

Thanks.

Well if you haven't recalibrated the speedo for those tires that will certainly throw off your milage calculations quite a bit, and you'll need 4.56 gears to get back to the stock ratio too. For anything larger than 3.73 the front differential case has to be replaced but the rear is fine.

Thank you Conanski. Youre quite knowledgeable with this sort of thing. I did find the gear I need for my speedo calibration. I havent gotten it yet but its only 15 bucks. Is there anything bolt on for the front? Could I reuse my spindles also?

Other than that, thank you for the info! :-wink

If you can find a truck with 4.10 gears.. either an F150 or F250 with a D44 HD, just grab the front pumpkin.
