Salvage Title

What happens for a truck to have a salvage title. A truck i am interested in has a salvage title but i am afraid to buy it because of the title status.

The specific definitions may be different depending on the state, but generally speaking it's a vehicle that's been in an accident that's considered a total loss by an insurance company. If the vehicle is then recovered and fixed, it's considered "salvaged."

What's the condition of the truck? Has the seller given you a history of what they did to it? Make sure to ask them about it, or if you know someone that's a member of carfax, they can run the VIN for you to get its history.

With the older trucks like ours a damaged bedside could constitute a total loss if the insurance company thinks it costs more than the truck is worth. So, Just because they decided to total it doesn't necessarily mean the truck was wrecked that bad.

I've seen vehicles with salvage titles due to hail damage. Do some investigating to try and find out why it was salvaged.

Find out in your state if you can register a salvage title, some state will not allow it:-lamesign

This truck is the white truck i was going to buy we decided on 2500 dollars which was considered a good deal but when we went to transfer the title it said REBUILT TITLE. so i backed out on it. now after riding in the truck yesturday and it still drives and rides great i am considering buying it. I was told a was backed into buy a car and crushed the bedside and that the insuranse company junked the title the owner prior to my father in law fixed the bed side and repainted it.

just remember that when you sell it you will have to answer all the same questions.

also, every dollar you put in this truck you may never see again.

unless you can't live without it i suggest pass.

Been here a few times. If you are going to buy it and keep it, who cares as long as it tracks straight and the tires wear evenly. If you plan to sell it down the road, that's where you really need to consider it because of the resale value. I have had great trucks that have dirty titles. If it is cheap and you like it and plan to drive it for years to come, buy it! JMO

Heck, if you can get it cheap enough, building up a vehicle with a salvage title is even worthwhile sometimes.

We rebuilt a salvaged 2005 Freestyle this past winter, and the neighbor's already gotten offers for it for twice what he spent on parts and everything.

Some salvage vehicles have been abandoned, too, I believe?

i have been driving BEATER's For a long time and this time i want something nice and something i can keep. like i said before my wife was brought to our wedding in this ford. and it is nice. it needs a couple things but nothing major. i am not really worried about resale value because if you set and worry about ever penny you put into something then you dont have any fun. YOU ALMOST NEVER get what you got into something. thanks guys for all the info i appreciate it.

You might check with your insurance agent before you bite the bullet on this truck. Don't need any nasty surprises later...
