Ranger Towing
What has everyone towed with their Ranger?
i have a 2004 ranger with a 4.0 just wondering what everyone has towed and able to tow. |
I've towed a 13' travel trailer. About 2000 lbs. Truck was okay with it for the most part, until it came to the hills.

I have towed a bunch with my 02 4.0.
Tow my boat all the time, 3500lbs, tows fine, but obviously is not a speed demon, but no complaints. Tow my Jetski's, 1500lbs, its like they arent there. Full load of firewood, no issues. A few times I have towed my 6000 lb camper, just locally 4 or 5 mile max. Over the limit a touch, but it handled it. I wouldnt take it on the freeway, but a short poit a to b move it does fine. |
I recently towed my classic mustang on a tow dolly around 150 miles with it. Mine is a 3.0 auto and did it off the bumper. Did ok, but I did no hills as I live in florida. It was actually smoother with the car on it than when I came back since the tow dolly was bouncing all over the place and jerking on the back of the truck.

I've towed a 23' pontoon a few times. 4.0 did ok - underpowered and brakes were a bit scary but it got me to the lake and back without any injuries.

sounds good

Well i dont know where the hitch was put on at (got ranger from Relative) Its the hitch that i would say looks like a "Z" the top bolts to the bumper and then drops i would say 5-6" the angles out (back) to wear the Ball mounts(that got bent along the bumper-Relative) so not it has braces back to the frame is that ok? think it woiuld hold up? |
i pull a 6x10 box trailer, biggest issue i have is wind resistance, trailer is 8' tall overall, catches quite a bit of wind even with the "V" nose. never weighed the loaded trailer, empty its about 1,000 pounds. im sure ive had a good 2,000 in it a time or two.

This sounds like it is not mounted to the fram, and just the bumper, which has already been bent and comprimised. I personally would not put much load on that. A Brand New hitch is about $150 delivered from lots of places, probably get one used off craigslist, and that is the route I would go. |

Yes it is only bolted to the bumper and then 2 braces welded on to it and then bolted to the frame. I am looking at getting a 2" receiever hitch but not sure which one to buy?? DO they all fit the same? I was looking localy the other day and they were costing around 150-200? i just dont know if it will all fit?? thanks How would a 7x14 tow?? |
I just bought a class III hitch off of Ebay .Its a U-haul hitch made by Curt for $125 delivered to my door.
|
They pretty much all bolt the same place, there are preset holes in the frame. I bought the tube style Hidden Hitch from etrailer for like $150 delivered. Local = tax
