need an engine tag decoded !
Getting ready to do a little restore on my 68 Ranger and I have been looking for an engine tag decoder and cant find one. Can anyone decode the following info for me?
360 68 2 8 E K 300 K Thanks in advance! |
looks like a plain jane FE 360 with 2 barrel carb.
Good truck motor, not a gas sipper, easy to upgrade to a 390 with a crank rod upgrade. Better not to convert to 4 barrel without a rebuild and making it a 390. IMHO John :-X06 |

360 68 2 8 E K 300 K Thanks in advance! 360 = 360 2V / 68 = 1968 / 2 = Change Level * 8 = 1968 / E K = FoMoCo use / 300 is the code for a 360 2V - VIN engine code Y / K = FoMoCo use. * Change Level. In 1968, there were two different length pushrods used. This was a "running change" so there is no serial number break. Pushrods: Level 1 (L/1) = 9.62" O/A length // Level 2 ( L/2) = 9.59" O/A Length. |
already upgraded with a cam, 390 crank with cobra jet rods, edelbrock intake with a 600 box, electric choke. Runs awesome!

Then it doesn't make any difference what's on the tag, because that engine is no more.

thats true, but its still nice to have the tag on it for show.

well i got a tag off a 300 I bought awhile back and I figured I'd ask what it all means if it's not too much trouble.
