What do leaking up pipes sound like?

I know my RH side pipe was showing the black streaks. Pulled a trailer 250 miles today. Almost sounds like a tapping/knocking noise by the firewall. That the pipes? Also, truck seems down on power. Does a leaking pipe affect output a bunch or just a little? I have read most of the threads on up pipes and didn't see anything quantifying how much power was affected.

If you uppipes are leaking bad enough to hear the leak in the cab, you are losing alot of exhaust drive pressure to your turbo and will see a significant decrease in power. When mine leaked, I really couldn't hear it. I could just smell the exhaust leak at start up.

Mine has a tapping noise around the dash when driving. Stays in sync with engine speed. The soot on the pipe didn't look that bad, but I was curious. Either my trailer is heavier than I thought or truck is weak. I guess I'll be calling Clay soon to get some bellowed pipes and turbo back, AIH plug, HPX, and likely other stuff. Should run better then. :)

The bellowed pipes will make a night and day difference - as long as your exhaust pressure sensor tube is not broken.
It will only help.
The exhaust system needs to be completely sealed up for everything to function at it's best.
It's the tube that runs from the front of the right side manifold, up to the sensor.

I cleaned the tube, sensor and bracket the other day. They were all plugged solid.

Any change?

Truck was new to me and I hadn't driven it much before cleaning the tube. Hard to say.

When I took mine apart to clean it, there was barely anything in it. It was wide open, and so was the sensor. I wonder why some get clogged when mine just had a light layer of soot... :-huh

mine looked like this.....

Nothing wrong with that. They just included the invisible portion for free. :-X14
