Motor Oil

Just intrigued to see what the users on this board use in their expedition, specifically for:

Oil Type
Filter Type
Change Interval

berry1234 07-27-2009 12:45 PM

I use what the manual says Ford semi-synthetic 5w20. Either Ford Filter or best Fram the auto parts store has. I change it every 5,000-7,500 miles. I do 90% fwy driving, no towing.

99expy 07-27-2009 06:13 PM

Ford filter and Mobil 1 5w20 every 5K.

Ford (I am assuming Motorcraft) filter from the dealer, FLAPS, or some other source?

berry1234 07-28-2009 11:15 AM

Sometimes the dealer installs a cheap no name filter.

Usually what I have seen as well, exactly why I don't ever get my oil done at the dealer.

Tylus 07-28-2009 08:18 PM

Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend
Motorcraft FL-820s filter

oil change every 3,000 miles roughly...or 6 months.

I do about 80% of city driving, and occasionally get <10 miles of 55-60 mph driving. Oil is cheap, motors ain't

Nothing but Motorcraft filters on my Fords. I've run Castrol on every one of them for the last 10 years and I'll stick with that. Viscosity comes down to whatever the manual calls for. :)

04markIII 07-29-2009 08:17 AM

fl820s and 5w20 motorcraft full synthetic. no ifs, ands or buts. about every 5k miles.

nfntruth 08-01-2009 03:06 PM

I run Full synthetic, whatever is on sale, and viscosity based on weather. Every 7-9K miles. Filter-proline or K&N when its on sale. Of course, I just changed my oil for the 4th time in 22 months, I just hit 18K miles.

I run Mobil 1 and there Mobil 1 filter only. The Motorcrafts go into bypass fast, because there valving is weak. Then once bypass happens no filtering.

I am excited about the New Castrol edge, but am waiting for the 5/20 version that is not out yet. Motorcraft oil isnt that great, and doesnt perform well intests.
Hastings makes a good filter, NAPA brand is good, and so is federated.

I never run FRAM, Never

you have anything to back up your statements...particularly the bold ones?

I'm especially interested in the valving one.

The tired old oil war begins.
