engine acts like it is starving for fuel
 

1995 ford F250 4x4 7.5L After driving for an extented period of time, it starts lugging and acts like it is running out of fuel. the first time it did it , it started rightup when I switched fuel tanks , so I figured it was the in tank fuel pump then it did it on the other tank also. after a few min. it started right up and ran ok. this has happened many times . I replaced filter.and fuel pressure regulator. thought that was the fix .it ran well for a couple of days then started doing it again. I can here both fuel pumps build pressure when I cycle the ignition. It always starts back up [so far ] after a few min. and may not act up for 20 or 30 miles ??????????

The same exact thing is happening to me. Makes no sense. Maybe someone on here has found the solution. :-banghead

A couple of things that you might want to check. When the truck feels like it is starving for fuel, remove the gas cap from the tank you are selected to and see if there is a vacuum in the tank.

Another possibility is that there is debris in the fuel tank that is building up around the pump intake. There usually is a sock filter there that can get blocked. I had this problem on one vehicle and it gave the symptoms you describe.

Thanks for the info. This is realy starting to be a pain

You may want to also look into the fuel reservior that switches between the tanks. I think your 95 7.5 has a different setup than my 87 but same symptoms existed in mine. It was a $140 dealer-only part but fixed the problem.

Have tried all suggestions with no luck I do appreciate the feed back . I took it into Ford dealership and they could not find anything. It is not giving any codes. Looks like I may have to look into the clunker buy out :confused: Thanks everyboby that responded. DLG

Get a fuel pressure gauge mounted on the fuel rail so you can see if it actually has a fuel problem or not. None of these trucks have the switching resovoir after 1989 btw, in-tank pumps only.

Do as Paul O said above by mounting the fuel gauge so you can see it as you drive to see if it is fuel related.
Could also be the PIP sensor in the distributor or other Ignition items doing it.

Anyone thought of the fuel pump module?
