Looking for info/history of Larger Fords 500 and up beginning to 1979
 
I am Looking for info/history of Larger Fords 500 and up from the beginning to 1979, such as the C-series, F500+, N series, H series, and any other commercial/medium or heavy duty trucks.
Anyone out their that can contribute to my collaboration of a wiki-style info and history of the heavy duty lines?

I'll check it out. It may be a hard search, I haven't seen any H's or N's running and I don't know if there is as great an interest in restoring heavier trucks. I did see on lady's site...I think it's called Michelle Coles Fords or something. She seems to be somewhat of an afficianado on the H and N series and others. Her dad was a mechanic at a Ford Truck dealership in the 60's.

Michelle is an FTE member, her truck is pictured here in her gallery.

However, it's a 1961/69 (not sure of the exact year). There was no actual N Series after 1969.

1970 and later, the N was replaced by the LN, which is a totally different truck.

Yeah, I've been meaning to email her. I love the heavy trucks. You don't see a lot of them, but when you do they always grab my attention.

The Red one is a restored '77 F-600.(The first picture,the one without a bed)
The light Blue one is a '75 F-600.(The second picture)
The yellow one is a '51.(The sixth picture)
The Big Red Fire Truck is a F-850.(The seventh picture)
The Greenish Blue one is a 1966 F-850.(The eight picture)

Wow, I wouldn't have guessed that the light blue-greenish one was a 66. The front grill looks like a 60's N series a bit. The 66 750 is really nice too. Was the hood scoop necessary or just for looks on the bigger ones? Which ones from 66 had it? I guess the Big Job/ Super duties. Did that start at 700 or 750?

The hood scoop has ductwork that mounts on the underside of the hood that connects directly to the aircleaner, so it's 100% functional.

The duct was designed to dis-engage when the hood was opened, then automatically re-attach when the hood was closed.

Regarding the grille question, I suggest you buy the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog, which is available on a CD from hipoparts.com for around 22 bucks.

Snce this catalog has 1961 pages of illustrations, you can find out what the differences are in the grilles and look at any other part on these trucks..

For example, the N Series used three different types of grilles, depending on the series (N500/750 or N/NT850/1100), and whether a diesel was present (N800).

That sounds like good info to me. Was the air cleaner different on the engines in the F-750+? Could I use a hood with the scoop on my truck and have it attach properly to my air cleaner? Maybe I would have to get the air cleaner from the donor vehicle I get the hood from. I think it looks smart, and it wouldn't hurt to have better air flow to my carb.
I bet the hoods with the scoops and the air cleaners that go with them aren't easy or cheap to find.

I doubt it and the ductwork will fit whatever carb you have.

Someone was lookin' for one of those hood scoops recently, I found exactly one at a Ford dealer in Mexico.

There's a grille on the backside of that scoop, no one has any.

No one has any of the aircleaner ductwork either.

Good luck finding those side hood scoops, I looked around, no one has any.

Looking up obsolete parts in the car/truck catalogs for members, then searching for them, and posting what I find, is one a the things I do here on FTE.

I'll keep my eyes open for a donor super duty.
I scored two one piece rims, tires, and hubs today at my local upullit so I can replace my current split rims. The best part, their not even rusted and I paid a whopping 14 bucks for it all. I love a good junkyard score! I am going to keep my current tires but change to the one piece rims...A lot safer I think.

Greg, that's a beautiful Tilt bed F600! I am glad to know other people have and love the heavier trucks too!
