zf s5 42 running 250 degrees

Anybody know what will make a tranny run hot like this? I swapped the short range gear set for a wide range one and it shifts nice but it is running too hot. I tried atf and gear oil and it looks like I have to pull the tranny again. I didnt put new bearings in the main or counter shaft but all my lashs between gears is .006 so I wouldn't think that would be a problem.

You probably have the preload on the bearings to tight.

The ZF is to have light oil only, technically ATF!

Turned out to be an exhaust clamp touching the transmission. It was just cooking the poor thing.
