Where do I find the strategy code on my truck?
I believe they start with VXxxx.

You will have to use the sct tuner to get it. Go thru thr menu for vehicle info.

and you can sometimes get the strategy off your ficm's stickers, but best to get it electronically via the xcal since it may have been updated and the tech didn't mark the latest strategy...

All sct xcal2 and x3 for ford vehicles will work for custom tuning. As long as it is not the green economy tuner. There are 10 or more different part numbers. The differences are some had "canned tunes" other did not. Mine I believe was a #9415 xcal2 that had canned tunes originally and supports just about every ford vehicle 99+. If you look for a used programmer the main thing to avoid is getting a locked tuner! If the seller is not local I would make sure I get it in writing that it is unlocked and ready to go. If they cannot make you a guarentee of that and tell you how many unlocks it has left you would be money ahead to buy it new. Believe me I bought mine locked and it was a scary feeling when I found out it was locked and after paying for it I was going to have to fork over $150+ to sct to get it unlocked. So beware!

the strategy is somewhat year specific and vehicle specific. Depending on what updates etc. A custom tune is for a specific strategy. The tuner is not year specific. Just the custom tunes. A different strategy tune might work but might or might not mesh well wil your vehicle dependant on how close the tuning is
