Mustang Fuel Tank Install

22 gal. tank. It's tight but it fits and doesn't rub anywhere. Nuts are welded into the inside of the square tubing. All mounting nuts are welded to truck frame for easy installation. Fuel tank is mounted above lower frame lip instead of below like all of the others that I have seen.

That looks slick. What year mustang did that come from and where did you pick that new on up from? I think that is the answer to my problem.

It's a 1970 Mustang, 22 gallon, non-emission fuel tank. Picked it up off of EvilBay. It's the Canadian made tank, not Taiwan, Chinese, etc. Comes with sending unit. I mounted it on a 1" square tube frame and then cut the rivets and removed the far-most rear crossmember and slid it in on top of the lower lip of the truck frame. This way it gives you more clearance under the tank. With the bed installed there is about 1/8" clearance between the tank and the square cross section of the bed, where the bed contacts the truck frame.
To clearance the underside contour of the rear-most part of the bed the removed truck crossmember must be slightly modified and re-installed upside down. I welded mounting nuts to the inside of the rear crossmember for easy installation because it's a PITA to get your hand and a wrench up inside the frame to bolt the crossmember back in. I will be finishing the tank install this weekend. I have a real sano idea for the fuel door in the rear of the bed.

The guys ebay name is rstanggang. No problems, fast shipping, tank came with sending unit, filler hose, etc. They are out of Kentucky. I believe their business is called Kentucky Mustang Parts. I paid $119 + shipping.

is that a long bed or short and how do you bolt the box on there is two bolts that use the rear crossmember to bolt thru from under the bed that are not accessable from the top inside of bed and can you show the front area where the fuel line and float assy is (view). Very nice set up kinda curious as to the filler hole setup is going to be done.

The truck is a short bed.
As to your question about the rear bed bolts, the crossmember that used to run between the rear leaf spring mounts is now relocated all the way to the rear of the frame. It has been slightly modified and is installed upside-down to accomodate the contour of the underside of the rear of the bed.
The nuts that bolt down the rear of the bed are welded inside the crossmember because there is no room to get a wrench inside the frame...

The nuts that mount the crossmember are also welded to the inside of the crossmember...

The rear bolt hole is for the rear bed mounting bolts...

I have not finished the fuel line plumbing or the sending unit wiring. The sending unit is on the front of the tank behind the diff...

nice one more question,, how is the bumper brackets going to be bolted on as there doesnt seem to be enough room to get at the brackets bolts to the frame?

Nuts will be welded to the inside of the frame rails so all of the bolts will go in from the outside. There is enough room, the bolts just can't be too long.
