gas tank sending unit
 

Hey guys,

The in-cab gas tank sending unit is toast and I was wondering if I could still get the OEM original. The part number on the unit is: C4TF-9275-S

This is off my 1967 M100

You sure the sending unit itself is bad, and not just the float?

The float is made from two pieces of copper soldered together.

The solder breaks down, gas seeps in, the float slowly settles to the bottom of the tank.

scroll down on the left to my album "gas tank sending unit " and have a look...I'm still waiting to hear back from the rad shop out here as to the cost of cleaning the old tank. It's pretty bad, and I may have to buy a new one. That's going to put a big dent in the budget, I'll bet.

For some reason mine will only read up to a 1/2 tank when full. With the sender out it reads the entire range, and the float has been replaced. The replacement float was from lmc and wider that the older one by about 1/2" or so, could it be getting hung up and not going all the way to the top of the tank? There is not a lot of room at the top (narrow).

Mine is worse than toast, it's gone!
 

So I just bought a truck, discovered the gas smell was coming from a missing fuel sender, and can't seem to find a replacement. Or I have found too many that "say" they are the right part, but look different.
I have a 71 f-350, with an in-cab behind-seat tank, that holds at least 15 gallons (i've put that much in it). The hole where the fuel sender unit was is about 2 inches across and has 5 screw holes around it.
Anyone have any ideas what I am missing? I looked at the C1TZ-9275-KR part photos online and it looks like it might be right.
Any help would be appreciated.

I used to use a hardware store yardstick as a fuel gauge...way cheap and it never fails to read accurately.

Just took my gas tank out and cleaned it. Along the way I pried the non-functional sending unit apart to see what I could do. Turns out there's a small tab connected to the float arm that reads the field created by the electric connection that was snapped off, but still in there. I can't repair it. My gauge read 1/2 tank when full so I figure you have the same issue. I found a replacement on ebay, the one with 5 holes for installation offered by tomsclassic for $40. I doubt they are OEM, but at least they may work. Gonna order one myself this week so I'll let you know how it works out. Mine's a '68 F100 with the 18 gallon tank behind the seat.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like we have the same need, so I'll see how your fix works. I've also started trolling the junk yards around here so may luck out there as well.

Tank sending unit
 

I ordered the new sending unit off ebay as I said on 4/25 and it arrived here in San Diego on 4/27. It's made of stainless steel and is NOT a FOMOCO OEM part. That being said, it shipped with a rubber 5-hole gasket and looks just like OEM part. Float is cylindrical brass and is interchangeable with the original, if yours is still good. Installed very easily, has two wire connectors for wiring. When I turned my ignition key, the gauge rose steadily and settled on half a tank. Using the old yard stick method, I found that I HAD about half a tank. Seems to read correctly. I will top off the tank very soon and let you know if the wire arm on the sending unit needs to be adjusted in any way, but I think it's gonna be just fine.

Bottom line: a $39 part that is NOT OEM but works great and is delivered quickly.

1970/72 F100/750 in cab fuel tank (DOTZ-9002-A - reproduced by Blue Oval Truck Parts) has a capacity of 19 1/2 gallons. 1961/69 in-cab tank has an 18 gallon capacity.

One might find the DOTZ-9002-A tank in 1961/69's, as Ford replaced the tank used in these trucks with this tank in 1970 for use as a service part replacement.
