Need to replace glass bowl on 1904 Carb. '52F2
 

Hello, (first post, but i searched and read newbie article)

Where can I find a replacement fuel bowl for the cracked glass fuel bowl of my 1904 Holley carburetor? Glass would be nice, it will only be for the farm... so i think.

Do any vendors come to mind as the best source for this? (I saw "tin" replacements mentioned in another thread.) Will i only find it on classified? Or am I just plain out of luck?

I have a 1952 F2 with a 6 cylinder EAG 215 from what I can tell.

Plus, what is the difference between a 1904, 1960 and a 1908 carb.?

First let me welcome you. Glad to have you hanging around. Especially since you're a 52 owner, and a big truck at that, and are keeping your 215 going.

I know of nobody that sells replacement glass bowls. The only place I see them is on eBay, and they generally get bid up to silly prices. Rebuild kits are available at NAPA. Whether they have the tin replacements I can't say. They, however, seem to be one of the better sources of parts in general.

If you need to do a rebuild, here's a great on-line reference. It's an IHC Holley 1904 catalog, but it's the same as used on Fords. Link: Holley 1904 Carb, 1953 IHC - The Old Car Manual Project

As for the other carb numbers you listed, sorry that I'm no help there. Maybe one of the others will chime in on that. Again, glad to have you join the group. Stu

Thanks Stu, I didn't think that NAPA would carry anything for a '52, but I'll give it a try. I was going to try them for a fuel pump like the electric "Bendix" that is on the truck now. We will see what I can do with the 215... Thanks for the welcome and the free manual.

Maybe I can sell the glass pieces on ebay. :)

I got my kit at NAPA. And my stock fuel pump. And my water pump. Pretty much anything is available there I think. Now, all that said, you might have to avoid the kid at the computer and find the old guy that knows up from down. Good luck with it. Stu

Thanks. No luck with the fuel bowl, maybe I'll try to call some online places. The NAPA guy seemed to know what he was talking about, but ignored me talking about the 215 and got me to agree to a carb. kit related to a 223... not in a computer though. I hope I'm on the right track here.

You might also check to see what Job Lot can do. Link JobLot Automotive. They are a great source for big truck stuff, but also tend to have the odd ball stuff. Try older junk yards, I found one glass one on a 62 or 63 comet 6 cly. one metal on a ply. slant 6. Mine had a small chip in one corner i used jb weld on it, sanded it into shape then turned it up side down,then reused it & saved the ones i found & put in the glove box, plus put two gaskets on, one under the metal bail & one for the glass, made my own. sealed up the first time.

twd54f100, I am trying clear epoxy and grinding to fix the chip in the glass right now. It looks good so far, crystal clear fix. Grinding the edge to shape will not be easy, and I'm not sure if the epoxy will withstand the fuel, but worth a try.

I'll give those sources a shot to find a safe metal one. thank you.

Oh yeah, the NAPA rebuild kit worked great. The 1904 is close to new after work with brass brushes, elbow grease and carb. cleaner. It feels good to have it in such nice shape - almost ready to go.

Lots of IH's, Dodges, AMC's etc used the same carb, so don't overlook any of those sources. It seems like an early '60's Scout I had had that carb with a metal bowl (cast pot metal). It leaked, too...

In 1960, Ford replaced the glass bowl with a metal bowl for use as a service part replacement (parts sold at parts counters).

I could not find the glass bowl part number, here's the metal bowl:
