Pre-Lightning H/P Truck?

I just picked up a second 82 F100 SWB Stepside which is equipped the same as my other one(300, SROD and 3.08's) but, it is not your average F100, it came with 235/60R15's on 8" wide rims(unfortunatley seperated from the truck somewhere along the way), while my other one came with 215/75R15's on 5.5" wide rims, and it has a l/s in it's 9".
Anyone have any idea why this truck would have been equipped this way?

On this truck, does it have the smaller bolt pattern wheels that were offered in late 80,81 and early 82? How about the paint and trim scheme ? I saw your first post and was amazed at the speeds you accomplished in the lower gears which tells me this is a highway truck, not a hauling truck. Does SROD mean Standard Ratio Over Drive ? And does the shifter go through the very top,in the middle of the main case? Just curious !

It has the small bolt pattern(5 on 4½?). The paint is solid black(no trim at all) with a red dash(Work truck type, nothing special at all) a vnyl seat, floor mat, the only fancy thing is the woodgrained shift knob(same as my other truck.)SROD stands for Single Rail Over Drive(all the gears are on one rail,) and the shifter is on the tailshaft, with a single rod going ahead to shift the sideloader(they're found in older Mustangs.)

Evan, I'd be very surprised if Ford ever offered
8" wheels on the F100. From what I can tell the largest wheel from the factory was 6". I think someone added aftermarket wheels and tires just to
dress it up a bit. The reat gears that came out of my stepside were 247s! Now thats what you call highway gears.

Well, someone must have changed the door tag sometime in the life of the truck then. It currently has a set of 7" aftermarket white spoke wheels with 235/75R15's, which are going to be spares for my other 82, as the frame is toast on this truck, cleaned it up with my high pressure sprayer, and blew half of it away, good thing the body and drivetrain are good, I paid $1000 for the truck.
Ouch, them 2.45's must have made the truck hard on clutches, bolth of mine require quite a bit of slippage to get going.

Evan,
What is the information on the door tag, maybe I can have it checked by one of our Ford
techs.

It says something like rim size 8x15 and tire size 235/60R15, while my other 82 has rim size 5.5x15 with 215/75R15 listed, under the rear axle coding, it lists the axle as 134 on bolth(l/s must be added) and I think the transmission is listed as 04, I'd go out and check, but there is a rather large snow storm (4" of snow in the last hour.)
